Happy 96th birthday to Skeletor!

Born on this day….Alan Oppenheimer (born April 23, 1930) is an American retired actor. He has performed numerous roles on live-action television since the 1960s and has had an active career doing voice work since the 1970s.

Oppenheimer is most famously known for voicing the iconic villain Skeletor, along with Man-At-Arms and Cringer/Battle Cat on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Other iconic roles include Falkor the Luckdragon in The NeverEnding Story, Vanity Smurf on The Smurfs, Ming the Merciless on Flash Gordon, and Various Transformers including Beachcomber. He also portrayed Prime Evil in Filmation’s Ghostbusters and provided voices for The Wuzzles.

39 years ago, G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987) was released direct-to-video on April 20, 1987, following production delays that scrapped its planned theatrical release. The movie introduces Cobra-La, featuring villainous characters like Golobulus (voiced by Burgess Meredith), Nemesis Enforcer, and Pythona. The film reveals Cobra Commander's origin as a human who experimented with biological weapons before being mutated into a snake-like creature by Cobra-La. Originally, Duke was intended to die from a snake spear wound, but the ending was changed to a coma after the backlash over Optimus Prime's death in The Transformers: The Movie.

Happy 73rd Birthday to Frederick Allan Moranis (born April 18, 1953). He is a Canadian actor, comedian, musician, producer, songwriter and writer.

Moranis appeared in the sketch comedy series Second City Television (SCTV) in the 1980s and starred afterward in several Hollywood films, including Strange Brew (1983), Streets of Fire (1984), Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequel Ghostbusters II (1989), Little Shop of Horrors (1986), Spaceballs (1987), Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989, and its 1992 and 1997 sequels), Parenthood (1989), My Blue Heaven (1990), and The Flintstones (1994).

In 1997, Moranis began a long break from acting to dedicate his time to his two children as a widower. He has not appeared in a live-action film for over 28 years, although he provided voice-over work for a few animated films, including Disney's Brother Bear (2003). He also released comedy albums and made appearances at fan conventions.

In 2020, after a hiatus of nearly 23 years from live-action films, Moranis signed to reprise his role of Wayne Szalinski in a new sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids called Shrunk. The project was ultimately put on hold that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is set to return to on-camera acting by reprising the role of Dark Helmet in Spaceballs: The New One, which is scheduled for release in 2027.

Moranis married make-up designer Ann Belsky in 1986 and together they had two children: a son and a daughter. Belsky died of cancer in February 1991. Moranis then slowly left public life to become a full-time single father.
