This inaugural event will showcase local, regional, national, and international live music performances to be showcased at a variety of locations throughout the city of Kalamazoo. We are conscious of the power of knowledge, and seek to accomplish educational goals by offering a series of professional music education courses, presentations/panels, and workshops that will explore a wide variety of m

usic topics designed to empower and inform anyone involved or interested in the music industry. We endeavor to create change through music and believe music is not only creative art but a means to connect and uplift humanity. We believe music can inspire humanity by creating connections that bridge class, gender and cultural divides. Uniting the community by supporting diversity, inclusion, as well as creating awareness towards environmental sustainability and mental health are core values we will give platforms to. Through support from the City of Kalamazoo and Private Sponsorships, Sounds of the Zoo is going to be a free event that will take place September 26 thru October 2, 2022. Sounds of the Zoo will help in making Kalamazoo a music destination city that will create and sustain economic development and growth for years to come. This will be a fresh, innovative, and community driven festival to grow right here in Kalamazoo.

✨A huge thank you to everyone who came out to at for our Sounds of the Zoo 2026 artist photo sessions. It was incredible seeing so many musicians, bands, and creatives come together in one space and continue building this amazing community.

Special thank you to our talented photographer, videographer for donating time, energy, and creativity to help capture these artists and support the vision of Sounds of the Zoo. Your work means so much, and these photos will help so many musicians professionally represent themselves moving forward.

Thank you as well to all of the participating bands and artists who showed up, supported one another, and made the day such a success. And of course, thank you to Jerico and the Clover Room for welcoming us and continuing to support local music and the arts.

This is exactly what Sounds of the Zoo is about — collaboration, community, and lifting each other up.

Bikes in the Zoo on Saturday, May 9th was an incredible celebration of community, music, art, and downtown energy in Kalamazoo. In collaboration with the Blue Skies Busking Program, the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, Downtown Kalamazoo Collective, and Sounds of the Zoo, we brought live music directly to the streets with six different music stations spread throughout downtown.

Between 11 AM and 2 PM, 17 local musicians filled the city with creativity, connection, and positive energy as thousands of people explored Bikes in the Zoo. This was more than just a one-day event — it was a glimpse into the future of what community-driven music experiences can become in Kalamazoo.

We believe live music belongs everywhere: in the streets, in public spaces, and at the heart of community events. This recap represents the vision — supporting local artists, creating opportunities for musicians, and building a more vibrant, inclusive downtown through the power of music.
