8:15 Acknowledgements and Closing
· Registration opens at 8:00 and will be open until 2:00. All contestants must be registered at least 30 minutes before their division begins and be available 30 minutes prior to the start of their division. There is a $10 fee per contest one enters. 50% off each additional division.
· Tune sheets must be completed and submitted to traffic personnel prior to performance.
· At the close of the contest, all are welcome to visit Mom’s Pies on Main Street for jamming. Throughout the day, contestants are invited to play indoors or outdoors at the Julian Beer Company.
· The contest is located at the Julian Town Hall: 2129 Main Street
· Although this is a “contest,” the main purpose is to have fun, make friends and enjoy music! Julian is excited to welcome you!
Divisions are as follows:
P*e Wee: Age 8 and under
Junior-Junior: 9-12
Junior: Age 17 and under
Adult: Age 18-59
Senior: Age 60-69
Senior-Senior: Age 70 and Up
Open: All ages
Twin Fiddle: Any age
Junior Picking: Any age
Open Picking: Any age
Backup Musicians: Any age

Rules:
Fiddle Division: Contestants must each play three tunes—a Hoedown, Waltz and Tune of Choice in both the first and second rounds of play. Their time limit is 4 minutes for each round. They are judged as follows: Old Time Style 25%, Rhythm/Danceability 25%; Clarity and Tone 25%; and Difficulty Level 25%; scores cumulative. Scores are lowered if time limit is exceeded. Playing order is selected by a drawing. The divisions are determined by age: P*e Wee—ages eight and under, Junior-Juniors---nine through twelve; Juniors—thirteen through seventeen, Adults—eighteen through 59, Seniors—sixty through sixty-nine, and Senior Seniors—seventy and older.
Open Fiddle Division—Fiddlers of any age may enter, however, the contestant may not also enter their age Fiddle Division. The same rules and judging standards for Fiddlers apply. The time limit for the final round will increase to five minutes
Twin Fiddle Division—Any age. Contestants must play two old-time fiddle style tunes of choice. One fast tune and one slow tune, and are judged 25% in each of the following: Harmony, Rhythm, Clarity and Tone, and Difficulty Level. May play tunes previously used in the Fiddle Contest, but may play in one Twin Fiddle category only. One round only—NO time limit.
Picking Division---In the first round, contestants must play two traditional old time, folk, blues, ragtime, bluegrass, or similar tunes of choice, one fast tune and one slow tune, with a four minute time limit. A medley of tunes is not acceptable. Only one tune of choice will be played in round two, with a two minute time limit. In case of a tie, contestants will play another traditional tune of choice with a two minute time limit. Contestants may use thumb pick, flat pick, finger picks, or no picks at all. Excessive strumming is discouraged.
Backup Musician/Accompanist---Place determined by number of times on stage (except entertainment).
