We are quickly approaching meet day at the 46th Trojan Timing Classic, set to take place on Friday, April 24 at Science Hill’s Kermit Tipton Stadium!

A quick “thank you” to Up & At ‘Em, Inc. for sponsoring this year’s meet! Up & At ‘Em has a mission statement “…to encourage, promote, and support the general fitness and health of our entire community with emphasis placed on youth programs, so that the community well-being is enhanced.”

High School Track & Field is a perfect way to promote fitness and the general well-being of young people in the Tri-Cities and beyond. Thank you, Up & At ‘Em!

This year marks 50 years since the inception of the meet in 1976 (meet hasn’t taken place over the years for a variety of reasons), but we are excited about this year’s edition and hope to keep the area’s oldest meet going for many years to come!

We’ve already got 10 teams registered for the meet and we hope to have many more over the coming weeks. The teams count has been in the 40s for a few years now and the quality of the meet has been one of the best not only in the state of Tennessee, but one of the best in the Southeast.

Registration is open and spectators are encouraged to come out on Friday, April 24 to watch the area’s best on display going head-to-head!

Though it is still summer and cross country season has not begun yet, it is never too early to start thinking about outdoor track!

In the spring of 2026, the Trojan Timing Classic will celebrate 50 years since its founding and will renew for the 46th edition on Saturday, April 25 at Science Hill’s Kermit Tipton Stadium. Yes, that is a change from previous years as the meet has been on a Friday night.

There’s a few other changes coming as well, including some added events.
- 2,000-meter steeplechase
- Mixed 4x400-meter relay
- Middle School showcase 1,600-meter run

A meet like this, however, does not go off without sponsors. Last year, we were very grateful for Fleet Feet Sports of Johnson City and Kingsport to jump on board as the premier sponsor.
Sponsorship dollars go towards a meal for the coaches and meet officials, pay for the meet officials, awards and a fee for the timer.

We are looking to add a few amenities this year and are actively looking for sponsors from all around the Tri-Cities and beyond! If you or your business is interested in sponsoring the Mountain Empire’s premier outdoor high school outdoor track and field meet since 1976, please reach out to either me (Tanner Cook, meet director) or Tim Johnson!

Hey folks!
Sorry that I haven’t posted in a while. Been a little hectic for the last few weeks, but I do have a few announcements.

First off, I’d like to give a shoutout to Fleet Feet of Johnson City and Kingsport for being the premier sponsor of the 45th Trojan Timing Classic on April 25 at Science Hill! Fleet Feet is the area’s best running specific store in my opinion and I’m glad to have them aboard!
It’s also pretty cool that owner Phil Horner has some personal history with the meet way back when it was still the Times-News Relays. He ran in the meet (mostly the 400 meters) for old Sullivan North HS. Later on, of course, the meet was hosted by Sullivan North for many years.
So, thank you Phil and Fleet Feet, for sponsoring the Mountain Empire’s premier prep outdoor track and field meet since 1976.

Secondly, the entries are open and I highly encourage coaches to go ahead and register. The registration deadline is Sunday, April 20. There’s plenty of you out there that’s haven’t registered yet, so please don’t wait until the very last minute to do it.
