Huntsville is once again welcoming the world of para-cycling to the Rocket City.

For the first time, Huntsville is hosting the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, happening September 4–7 at Cummings Research Park. 349 athletes from 49 nations will compete.

Katy and Marsha spoke with Claire Aiello of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber and former U.S. Para-cycling team manager Ian Lawless to learn more about the sport, the athletes, and what makes Huntsville a growing destination for international para-cycling.

The community is invited to come out and cheer on the athletes during the races this weekend.

Today we officially kicked off the 2026 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships with an official press conference held at The Westin Huntsville.

Today’s press conference featured athletes representing Team USA, Ireland, Norway, and the Netherlands and gave a first look at the medals being awarded at this weekend’s event. Thank you to all the athletes who have trained and traveled to visit our community, we look forward to watching you all race very soon!

We also want to share our gratitude toward the incredible teams that have helped us organize this event. Those include UCI, Medalist Sports, City of Huntsville, Alabama - Government, Huntsville Sports Commission, Huntsville-Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Huntsville/Madison County Chamber, and Cummings Research Park.
