the cards that don’t come with the game 💚♾️

every table gets a box. candle, game, and a set of spark cards in labelled envelopes, each one meant to be opened at a specific point in the night.

we start with your name and never a fun fact, because nobody has ever enjoyed being asked for one. the questions are timed to the game, so what happens on the table and what gets asked at the table are doing the same job.

questions like:
can you share one way your world has expanded recently?
what reminds you you’re alive?

some are there for the laughs. some will push you a bit. all of them exist so that nobody sitting with three strangers has to think of the first thing to say, and the quiet one at the table gets a door in without having to make one.

what you do for a living tells us almost nothing about who you are.

every ligare name tag has your name and one line underneath: ask me about, and then whatever you actually want to be talk about that night.

people stop at that line the first time. you can watch them think. “what do i actually want to talk about? who am i in this room?”

that pause is the point.

however big or small the topic, they all work. a trip. a business. a book. astrology. a world record, apparently.

steal it for your own events, it costs nothing and it works anywhere.

greyson and brenen, getting into why this works 💚♾️

the short version: put two strangers in a bar and ask them to mingle and you get twenty minutes of what do you do for work. put the same two people on the same side of a card game and something else happens entirely.

that’s the whole thing. every wednesday at spaghetti western on t c jester, a room of people who mostly arrived alone gets seated together, taught a game in about five minutes, and left to it.

nobody picks their table. a host meets you at the door with your name. there’s no in-crowd to break into.

we asked what stops you coming to a gathering 💚♾️

nobody said the price or the games.

they said petrified. social awkwardness. not knowing the norms. being an introvert. being sober. and one very honest laziness, which, respect.

so we’ve answered all of them properly.

the short version: a host meets you at the door with your name tag and introduces you around. your table is chosen before you arrive. we teach the game in five minutes. nobody is standing on their own working out where to go.

the first ten minutes are the part you’re dreading. they’re the part we’ve planned hardest.

Love letter 💚♾️

This weeks theme is “reading people”. You already do this, daily. You probably clocked someone in a meeting today and decided you knew them, and you were likely right (but you might have been completely wrong and you’ll never find out).

Wednesday you find out about three minutes into the game.

That’s the whole evening, really. A table of people who don’t know each other yet, one small card game, and the slow realisation that everyone is doing to you exactly what you’re doing to them.

Week two of twelve. same room, same time, every Wednesday until November. Come once and see what it is, come twice and you’ll stop being a stranger.
