What if investing wasn’t just about money?

What if it were about relationships, responsibility, and the kind of future we’re helping create together?

Continuing the COUNTDOWN to Saturday, May 23, we’re excited to welcome Tina Berger to this year’s TEDxHouston Countdown stage.

Tina is the founder of Invest Like a Mother, a movement inviting investors to explore an unconventional framework and values-based approach to investing.

She spent more than 20 years as an innovation and digital transformation advisor to corporate leaders in the energy sector.

Through this work, she developed a deep understanding of how capital flows, how decisions are made, and how large systems evolve.

Her work reframes investing as a relationship, not a transaction.

She emphasizes that when we invest, we are participating in real-world outcomes for people, communities, and the environmental systems we depend on.

Join us May 23 at the Ismaili Center Houston.

What if we could stop thinking the answers to our challenges are binary, and instead, hold the door open to multiple solutions being possible for climate action?

Neuroscientist David Eagleman introduced the concept of "possibilianism" from the stage — a framework for staying intellectually open in a world that loves certainty. The talk received a standing ovation.

He went on to the global TED stage and became one of the world's foremost voices on how our brains shape our reality...and how we can shape our brains: https://www.ted.com/talks/david_eagleman_can_we_create_new_senses_for_humans

Shaping our brains. Shaping our reality. It starts here. In . Join us in opening doors to new possibilities this Saturday, May 23!

Come see who takes the stage next — and what idea might travel from this room to the world!

TED Countdown is a global initiative with one mission: accelerate solutions to the climate crisis.

Since 2020, it has mobilized the world's boldest problem-solvers...scientists, innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders...to demonstrate that a cleaner, healthier, more affordable future is already underway.

In 2025, TED selected TEDxHouston as one of only a handful of TEDx Countdown anchor events across 13 countries. That means Houston isn't just watching this global conversation, we're part of shaping it.

Just like 2026 speaker, Jessica Wilt, is shaping the future of local food.

Jessica is the visionary executive director behind Central City Co-Op, Houston’s oldest organic and sustainable cooperative.

An unwavering advocate for regional food sourcing, Jessica and her business partner rescued the 1998-founded grassroots buying club from financial struggle in 2016, transforming it into a thriving economic engine.

Under her strategic leadership, the Co-Op 10x’d its business, moved into its first permanent storefront in The Heights, and evolved into a critical small business incubator that now partners with 100 local producers to offer 7,500 products year-round.

With a background in international journalism and a Master’s in Community and Economic Development from Penn State, Jessica applies an empathetic, informed lens to reshaping the future of local food.

Her commitment to uplifting regional farmers and ranchers earned her the Houston Business Journal’s “Women Who Mean Business” honor in 2025.

Beyond running a market, she is building a sustainable legacy where Houstonians can shop local and eat with integrity.

Come join us next Saturday, May 23, and connect with Jessica and other thought leaders who are shaping the future of Houston, one buy and one bite at a time.

The clean energy transition isn't coming someday. It's already here — in communities that stopped waiting for permission and started building the future themselves.

COUNTDOWN exists to put the people leading that shift on a stage, in front of an audience that will help their work and ideas go further.

Suman Khatiwada, PhD, is one of those people, and the next speaker we are proud to spotlight on May 23rd.

Suman is on a mission to decarbonize the industries that feed and fuel the world.

As co-founder and CTO of Syzygy Plasmonics, he develops photocatalysts and fully electrified chemical reactors that replace fossil-fuel-driven processes in chemical, fuel, and fertilizer manufacturing.

Under his technical leadership, Syzygy has raised over $130 million in venture capital and secured four government grants.

Across his career, he has built an invention portfolio spanning 21 patent families and 65 patents granted worldwide.

Dr. Khatiwada holds a PhD in Materials Science and Nanoengineering from Rice University.

He was named to the National Academies of Engineering's U.S. Frontiers of Engineering program in 2020, and received Rice's Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni award in 2024.

He serves on the board of a nonprofit and is an active mentor for startup founders across many climate-forward accelerators.

Join us on May 23rd and let Suman challenge your imagination with what's possible if we look at the "everyday" differently.

Continuing our TEDxHouston COUNTDOWN to Saturday, May 23, please join us in celebrating our next speaker...Esteban Montero!

Esteban grew up in Chile, a country whose geography is a sustained argument for the power and beauty of the natural world.

Trained in engineering, finance, and systems in Chile, MIT, and Tokyo’s Keio University, he has devoted his work to understanding how complex systems, whether technical, social, or ecological, integrate or fail to integrate.

As founder of the Holon Foundation, he applies that thinking to a piece of civic infrastructure most cities never look at twice: the front yard. 🌱

We know you’ll enjoy his talk this May 23rd.

Have you ever been overwhelmed by the thought that the problems we face today are just so big and complex that there's no way you could ever make a dent in trying to solve them?

Well, you're not alone. Many of us in the "ideas to action" community struggle with this daily.

That's why we're so excited to welcome Dianne Kimiko Murata to the COUNTDOWN stage this May 23: Dianne will share how you can "Change the World, One Chair at a Time."

Dianne Murata is the Founder and Principal of Kimiko Designs and the accidental environmentalist behind Kimiko Green, a movement reshaping how the commercial furniture industry thinks about circularity. With 25+ years leading complex projects across corporate, healthcare, and higher education, she’s known as the “furniture fire chief” for her ability to solve problems others avoid. Today, she works with facility owners and real estate leaders to turn furniture into a strategic asset, proving that smart, durable planning is as good for the planet as it is for the bottom line.

Join us on May 23 to hear about Dianne's journey and the movement she's building, and connect with others who are tackling the overwhelm by taking just one step, one day at a time.
