秋といえば、美術の秋!!
We are kicking off our fall programming in an artful fashion!

Join us next Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 15, as we dive into the candy-colored wonderland of Sebastian Masuda.

The visual artist, fashion designer and artistic director, known for popular brand 6%DOKIDOKI, concept restaurant Kawaii Monster Cafe, きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ‘s ‘PONPONPON’ music video, Sanrio Puroland’s ‘Miracle Gift Parade,’... and much more, is considered the pioneer of Harajuku ‘kawaii’ culture.

While the wider world often equates MASUDA-san’s trinket-filled creations with ‘cuteness,’ there is far more to the artist’s work.

Get insight into the artist’s colorful worldview and the power of color in this FREE EVENT.

It is with much disappointment and sadness that the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) announces the cancellation of the 27th Annual Japan Festival Houston.

As one of Houston’s largest outdoor entertainment weekends, hosting 25,000-30,000 attendees per year, and with concerns towards the continued rise in COVI-19 cases in city and surrounding area, the decision was made to avoid holding a large in-person event in 2020.

“…We feel it is essential that we do our part to curb the spread of COVID-19. The safety and well-being of our community remains our top priority.” ―JASH President Laird Doran

JASH is looking forward to the return of Japan Festival Houston in the spring of 2021 ahead of the announced Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Consul-General Hideo Fukushima is joining us to mark what would have been Japan Festival Houston weekend.

Although we cannot be together to celebrate Japan at this time, we remain committed to enriching, unifying and supporting our community by sharing Japanese culture online.

You can stay connected to Japan from home through the Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) website (jas-hou.org) or by following JASH on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

We echo Consul-General Fukushima's sentiments, we look forward to "get[ting] together in person as soon as the situation allows."

Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) and Japanese Festival of Houston, Inc. have been carefully monitoring the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 and working closely with our partners to manage the evolving situation.

After thoughtful consideration and consultation, we have reached a decision to postpone the Japan Festival Houston, which was scheduled to take place in Hermann Park on May 2-3.

As a nonprofit organization committed to enriching the community, we share the responsibility for the safety of all persons living in Texas, and at this critical time, our foremost priority is protecting the health and wellbeing of our participants and supporters in keeping with the guidance and information provided by the CDC, as well as the Houston Health Department and Harris County Public Health.

We are disappointed to have to communicate this news to you, particularly as we recognize the hard work that so many have invested in preparing for the event.

At present, we are evaluating the possibility of rescheduling the Festival on a later date.

We recognize the challenges that rescheduling presents and hope to have more information to share with you in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
