The ASC is now accepting submissions for the 2026 ASC Student Heritage Awards, with a newly introduced international category honoring cinematographer and educator Henner Hofmann, ASC, AMC. The awards recognize outstanding student cinematographers across undergraduate, graduate, documentary, and — for the first time — international programs. Eligible entrants must be graduating in 2026 or have graduated in 2025. The submission deadline is June 4, 2026, with winners announced in October.

At JL Fisher's Industry Mixer over the weekend, George Mooradian, ASC moderated a panel of ASC cinematographers on two subjects: what first drew them to the craft, and their personal relationships with color.

Panelists Natasha Braier, Valentina Caniglia, Sev Kastrati-Dill, Patrick Cady, Gregg Heschong, Christian Sebaldt, Mark Irwin, Adam Bricker, and Michael Goi shared answers reaching back to childhood, and named personal resonant hues ranging from turquoise to cerulean blue, each with a psychological rationale. The ASC Master Class ran May 11–15, 2026, with instruction led by David Mullen, ASC, Roy Wagner, ASC, Eric Branco, ASC, Christopher Baffa, ASC, Shane Hurlbut, ASC, and Roberto Schaefer, ASC, AIC across five days of lighting demonstrations, film analysis, color grading at Company 3, and sessions on AI in cinematography and career development. The program is designed for cinematographers at an intermediate-to-advanced level and is taught by prominent ASC members at locations in and around Los Angeles.

The next ASC Master Class — Vertical Cinematography — is scheduled for June 24–26, 2026, with Michael Goi, ASC, ISC confirmed as instructor. Registration is available via the ASC Store.

Shelly Johnson, ASC has been elected president of the American Society of Cinematographers, returning to the role he held from 2023–25 and succeeding outgoing president Mandy Walker, ASC — who served as the Society's first female president. The newly elected board includes officers and governors drawn from the ASC's active membership, with a full slate of vice presidents, treasurer, secretary, and sergeant-at-arms also confirmed.

The ASC Master Class concluded last week following five days of cinematography instruction at the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood, with additional sessions at Outpost LA, Panavision Woodland Hills, and Company 3. Instructors David Mullen, ASC; Roy Wagner, ASC; Eric Branco, ASC; Christopher Baffa, ASC; Shane Hurlbut, ASC; and Roberto Schaefer, ASC, AIC led sessions covering lighting theory and live demos, filter work, the ASC Camera Collection, color grading, and the role of AI and AR in pre-production and post. A career panel moderated by Charlie Lieberman, ASC and a conversation with agent Bill Dispoto of DDA Talent rounded out the program on the final day.
