At today’s Prince William Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Committee meeting, many leaders spoke powerfully about homelessness, hunger, and education.

While others represented important human causes, I had the honor of bringing the voice of the voiceless — the dogs. I was there to make sure the dogs got a seat at the table.

Through Kukur Tihar USA, I also shared about our annual Kukur Tihar USA Festival held every last Sunday of October — a celebration of compassion, blessings, and community coming together to honor our four-legged companions.

Every cause matters. Today, I made sure the dogs were represented. 🐾

The Monks Arrive in Virginia -

The monks have arrived in Virginia. Through snow-covered roads and frozen temperatures that have lingered for more than a week, they continue to walk- undeterred and steady- carrying a message of peace, compassion, unity, and healing.

Cold winds and icy paths have not stopped them, nor their loyal companion, Ashoka the dog, who walks faithfully by their side. Together, their journey reminds us that true commitment to peace endures even in the harshest conditions.

We offer our deepest gratitude to the monks for their unwavering devotion and to Aloka for embodying loyalty and courage on this sacred path. As they step into Virginia, the walk continues with humility for the road ahead and gratitude for every step already taken.

Jack Tiwari held his second annual Kukur Tihar celebration at John Long Park here in Haymarket last month!

Kukur Tihar is a special day in Nepal dedicated to honoring dogs for their loyalty, friendship, and role as protectors and companions. On this day, dogs are celebrated with a “tika” (a red mark on the forehead) as a sign of blessing and respect, adorned with garlands, and treated to special goodies.

The park was filled with smiles, wagging tails, and vibrant colors, as happy pups and their families joined in this joyful Nepali celebration.

A huge, massive shout out to Jack for making this wonderful community tradition possible! We’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration!

We’re honored to share a wonderful letter from Congressman Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia’s 10th District, recognizing the 2nd Annual Kukur Tihar USA 2025 Festival! 🇺🇸🐾

The Congressman commended our celebration for honoring the special bond between humans and dogs- rooted in a 5,000-year-old Nepali tradition- and for bringing cultural connection and community spirit to Northern Virginia.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Congressman Suhas Subramanyam for this recognition and to our founder, Mr. Jack Tiwari, for his unwavering dedication and vision. 💫

Thank you for the News Coverage Prince William Living Magazine. “Dogs give us unconditional love- and today, we returned it with celebration and honor,” stated founder Jack Tiwari during the opening ceremony. “Kukur Tihar USA is more than a festival. It’s a movement to build compassion in our communities, one pawprint at a time. We are committed to celebrating this festival every year on the last Sunday in October.”

The centerpiece of the day was the traditional blessing ceremony. Participants adorned their dogs with bright marigold garlands and tika marks on their foreheads – ancient symbols of honor, respect, and friendship. The blessing itself served as a public vow of protection and appreciation, thanking the dogs for their unconditional love, wishing them good health and peaceful lives, and acknowledging that having them by our side is the greatest blessing.

THANK YOU to everyone who joined us today for the 2nd Annual Kukur Tihar USA Festival! 🎉

It was an absolutely beautiful day honoring our best friends. Seeing all your amazing pups showered with Tika blessings, vibrant Malas (garlands), and tons of treats was the highlight of our year!

We were so happy to share this ancient Nepali tradition with our community. We are committed to keep the tradition and keep building the dog loving community here in the US. The fun doesn't stop here- let's keep the tradition going by showering our dogs with unconditional love every single day! ❤️

Nepal Police celebrates Kukur Tihar. Army personnel in Kathmandu honoured their canine companions by showering them with marigold flowers during Kukur Tihar, a festival dedicated to dogs as part of the Diwali celebrations. The ceremony at the Armed Police Dog Training School symbolised gratitude and reverence for the loyalty and service of the dogs.
