In celebration of local legends everywhere, Project M + HERObike have joined forces to create Catfish Bikes - a movement to bring confidence back to small towns across America. Each frame sold brings new jobs and opportunities to the rural South, giving more people the freedom to ride the open road.

the South had ever seen. Success didn’t make Catfish legendary. Grit did. His daring deeds were enough to make the people of Hale County proud, and that made him pedal harder. His talent was their talent. His courage was their courage. Just like the weathered towns around him, even dry spells couldn’t dampen his spirit. His stumbles weren't a stopping point, but just another turn along his journey to greatness. Like the legend himself, Catfish Bikes are built for the daring and courageous - because they’re built by you. Building a bike is a process that demands persistence, builds resilience and puts fire in your belly to do big things. These are the marks of a daredevil - the stuff of true legends. You who see bumps along the road as just another chance to saddle up and ride on.

Building community is a process that demands daredevil heroics - just like building a bike. Catfish Bikes are built through a partnership with HERObike, a social business operated by HERO in Greensboro, Alabama. HERO (Hale Empowerment and Revitalization Organization) is a catalyst for community development that works to end rural poverty in the rural South. By providing affordable housing, economic development and job training through its network of social ventures, HERO brings a spirit of hope to town - just like the Catfish did. Each Catfish Bike kit comes with all of the materials, tools, and instructions needed to walk you through the bike-building process. Proceeds from the sale of each bike kit contribute to job creation and revitalization in Greensboro.

From Sao Paulo and Greensboro to Kalamazoo, MI, youth bike-building projects are taking off around the world, bringing skills, jobs and creative confidence to kids near and far.
