From General Childs:
Gentlemen and Ladies of the USV. The annual meeting of the USV with elections is Saturday, January 20, 2023 at The Gettysburg Hotel, in Gettysburg. A block of rooms has been reserved at $89 per night for Friday and Saturday nights. Make your reservations at (717) 337-2000 and do not forget to mention that you are with the USV to get the contract rate. The meeting and break out rooms are as we have done in the past. However, instead of a dinner and to save everyone some money, we will adjourn from the meeting and reassemble for deserts, coffee and drinks with music, awards and slide show. We will be posting more here and on the USV web-site regarding elections, awards scholorships, dessert/entertainment fees, ect. on web-site.

The Slaughter Pen Farm

ON THE ORIGINAL BATTLEFIELD
All proceeds go to preservation

Portraying the 16th Maine
Easy impression:
Early war accoutrements
Greatcoat and plain forage caps is the rule
They were issued Enfield Rifles. If you have one, bring it.

Camping on-site or Hotel it.
The original regiment had 400 men in ten companies present. I wanted to shoot for 40-man companies. However, 30 is sufficient for the scenarios.

We need to get this ball rolling.
I need FIRM commitments for company commanders who wish to raise a company.

There’s over 300 people who claimed interest in this venture. Now is the time to decide. This is a HUGE chunk of property that needs to be paid off. The largest part of the battlefield and the site of some of its heaviest fighting. Hence the name.

Registration is now open -

Fee is $27.00

All proceeds after costs will be donated to help pay off the actual ground we will be using at the Slaughter Pen Farm.

Federal Companies will be under the command of Scot Buffington .

Elevating this post:

To: The Membership of the USV

In light of continuing COVID-19 related safety concerns, the uncertainty of additional restrictions being placed on meetings, restaurants, bars and travel - even Christmas at home - by PA, MD, VA and others and in conjunction with the Eisenhower Conference Center — a decision has been made to postpone our annual USV meeting indefinitely.

To date, there are no contested elections. We will work with the Eisenhower to reschedule a meeting in the spring or as the fears related to Covid -19 subside.

In the interim, annual dues are now required so that the corporate responsibilities of the USV can be met, our members covered by our insurance - covering national and local living history events.

If dues are not received by the January 9th date of the original meeting date - our traditional cut-off date - your unit and members will not be covered for the year.

Dues should be sent to: Lt. Logan Robertson, USV Treasurer, 698 Salem Street, Groveland, MA 01834

I am sorry for this. I need to see all y’all around a camp fire but short of that a drink at the bar is also needed. I have yet to hear that any of ours have come down with Covid. Keep up the good work, stay safe and we will get past this.

If you made hotel reservations - thank you - but, cancel them until we have a new date. We will work with the Eisenhower to get the same block of balcony rooms down the road.
In the interim, a merry Christmas and happy Hanukkah to you all,

Brig. General Childs

Notice:

For those who have not heard, both the October Cedar Creek Reenactment Battle and the November Remembrance Day Parade have been officially canceled for 2020 due to Covid-19 concerns.

Both intend to try again in 2021.
