Earth Day Fresno

Earth Day Fresno Earth Day Fresno is an annual family-friendly event organized by a public committee of EcoCenCal.

04/26/2026

This Earth Day we are on the home stretch for our upcoming second annual Building Innovations Summit, coming up next Wednesday, 4/29 at the University Business Center at Fresno State to create connections and share knowledge and resources to make Earth Day everyday through a healthy, resilient, affordable and decarbonized built environment.

We are thrilled to be joined by Rey Leon for our lunchtime fireside chat. Rey has been working on economic, environmental and climate solutions for decades as Mayor of Huron and Founder and Executive Director of the LEAP Institute.

We canโ€™t wait to hear his stories and learn from his experience spearheading initiates and projects to create resilient, decarbonized and healthy places and buildings for all right here in the Westside of Fresno County.

๐ŸŒŽ We are absolutely beaming over this photo. ๐Ÿ’š
Earth Day Fresno planning team members Debbie Xiong (Environmental Coalition Central California) and Sean Boyd (Fresno City College Division of Math, Science and Engineering) had the honor of meeting world renowned climate scientist Dr. Michael E. Mann at his recent talk at Fresno City College - and we could not be more proud to have people like this on our team. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Dr. Mann's presentation "Science Under Siege: How to Fight the Five Most Powerful Forces that Threaten Our World" was exactly the kind of conversation Fresno needs to be having - and it means everything to us that two of our own were in that room soaking it all in. ๐ŸŒฑ

Thank you Dr. Michael E. Mann for bringing your voice to Fresno. โœจ

๐ŸŒŽ Earth Day Fresno does not happen because of one person. It never has. ๐Ÿ’š

It happens because an extraordinary group of people show up, year after year, and give this community everything they have got. This year was no exception. In fact this year was something truly special.

We could not let this moment pass without taking the time to thank the people who made Earth Day Fresno 2026 our biggest and most beautiful celebration yet. ๐ŸŒฑ

๐ŸŒณโœจ Did you see this?! Because we could not stop staring at it.
Uplift Balloon Events created this absolutely stunning Balloon Tree of Life at Earth Day Fresno 2026, and if you stopped to take a photo we completely understand. ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ’š
But if you also stopped to chat with owner Marianela Borbon, you got a bonus Earth Day lesson that we are still thinking about.
Here's what we learned ๐Ÿ‘‡
๐ŸŒฑ Uplift Balloon Events is a California Green Certified Business, and Marianela recycles every single balloon used in her installations. Balloons are cut into small pieces and transformed into new materials like playground flooring. How cool is that?
We asked who you wanted to see at Earth Day Fresno, and Uplift Balloon events was the overwhelming nominee. Thank you for uplifting this local sustainable business!
๐Ÿƒ Latex balloons are plant-based and biodegradable, decomposing at a rate similar to oak leaves. They can be recycled or composted, though Fresno County does not currently accept them in compost bins.
๐Ÿšซ Mylar balloons on the other hand are made from metallic plastic film, they do not biodegrade, they tangle in power lines, and they are genuinely harmful to wildlife and ecosystems.
๐ŸŽˆ And about balloon releases - please don't. What goes up must come down, and released balloons - even latex ones - land in oceans, waterways, and wild spaces where they are mistaken for food by marine life and birds. Popping and disposing of helium balloons is always the right move. ๐ŸŒŠ
Support businesses that do it right. Support Uplift Balloon Events. ๐Ÿ’š
April 17th, 2027 - Earth Day Fresno returns. See you there! ๐ŸŒŽ
