Im out mowing our paddock yesterday 9/14 and I drive through what I thought was a lot of flies. Im thinking yuck what's going on when I realize im in the middle of a swarm. The swarm was like 15 feet off the ground so I stopped the mower to see where they wanted to land. Then they went straight for the ground in the exact spot I cut a bramble bush up a couple of weeks ago. This time of year you get more absconding swarms and im thinking I just checked on all the hives a few days ago and everything seems fine. So I watched them land and went up to the shop grabbed a bottom board, a 10f box of drawn comb and a lid. I put the bottom board down and barely put the box on it went they just charged right in. In less then 20 minutes they were all in and I resumed mowing.
After I finished mowing I did a spot check on the hives and all were still filled with bees. Im going to have to feed the heck out of these girls if they have a chance to make it through the winter.
