It was feeling a lot like Christmas at the Fairmont Christmas Parade and Blessing of the First Responders on Saturday, and the worst of the nasty weather held off just long enough for the event to stay a go!
Parade and Blessing organizer and sponsor Marion County Veterans Council - West Virginia extends our profound thanks to everyone who came out yesterday to help Fairmont celebrate the Christmas season and thank our many first responders in the picuresque winter weather by participating, watching, and generally helping make this event happen whether you did so visibly or behind the scenes. It really does take a village to put on a parade - particularly one of this size!
We especially thank
❄️the for traffic control - without whom this and many other local events would not happen
❄️Pastor Kp Musgrove of the Rose of Sharon Church for being the sole pastor on our clergy team who was able to make it in the weather for the and single-handedly administering the blessings for the always robust first responder turnout
❄️Local attorney Heidi Sturm, who stepped up on short notice to announce the parade and roll with good nature an often not-quite-in-order lineup
❄️Grand Parade Marshal Franchesca Aloi
❄️Jon Dodds for the high quality video support before and during the parade
❄️Our Marion County group who served as Color Guard for the parade - that would be the two mature gentlemen who proudly displayed our flags through the sometimes blowing snow and walked the entire parade route
❄️The City of Fairmont - City Hall Public Works Department for pre-staging and removing those huge road closed signs the WVDOT requires us to have for the state road parts of the parade and lineup and for the additional sawhorses and cones
❄️The Fairmont Fire Department and
❄️The Fairmont Police Department, W.Va., particularly Lt. Adrian Hayhurst and Sgt. Brice Fisher who were in the lead and end city police cruisers in the parade
❄️The Marion County WV Sheriff's Office and and Deputy First Class Keith Boggess who drove the lead sheriff's cruiser in the parade
❄️And everyone else in the background who we don't see but make these parades possible.
I want to personally thank the Marion County Veterans Council - West Virginia generally for sponsoring the parade and blessing again and especially Earlene Lovern, Stacia Carlson, Shawn Matthews, and Greg Sypolt for all of their help in marking the parade spaces and being boots on the ground during the parade lineup (definitely not a duty for the faint of heart, I promise!).
On that note, I'm looking forward to seeing you all at next year's Fairmont Christmas Parade and Blessing of the First Responders and the Fairmont Veterans Day Parade (hint - the Marion County Veterans Council - West Virginia sponsors that one as well as the Memorial Day Caravan)!
Merry Christmas,
Marci
