The Story Behind the KBR Triathlon: Kayak, Bike, Run
The idea for the KBR Triathlon was born on a chilly evening in Fair Haven, New York—over glasses of hard c***r, laughter, and the kind of easy conversation that only happens between friends who also happen to be passionate small business owners. As the wind whipped outside and the warmth of the fire crackled nearby, the conversation turned to summer—its energy, its possibilities, and the joy of outdoor adventure in a place we all love.
What started as a casual “what if” quickly took shape: What if we hosted a race that celebrated everything we love about this community—our beautiful bay, scenic roads, and wooded trails? What if it wasn’t just a race, but an experience that brought together people of all ages and skill levels? Something that combined paddling across calm waters, biking through our rolling countryside, and finishing with a run under the summer sun?
And so, the Kayak, Bike, Run race—KBR—was born. A local twist on the classic triathlon, rooted in the unique landscape of Fair Haven and fueled by community spirit. From that first c***r-fueled conversation, the idea has grown into a fun, accessible, and unforgettable event that celebrates wellness, friendly competition, and the vibrant character of our small town.
