2025 Lake Minnetonka Triathlon Cancelled
It is with deep regret that we must inform you that the 2025 Lake Minnetonka Triathlon has been cancelled. After 20 years of history, and despite our best efforts and multiple proposed alternatives, the City of Excelsior has denied approval for every bike course we submitted, making it impossible to host an event.
We are disappointed in their actions—and the timing of their actions—to say the least. The irony is that one of our primary charity partners is the Community for the Commons which supports improvements to the same park we have been using for the past 20 years.
What This Means For Registered Participants:
A full refund will be automatically processed to your original payment method within 5-7 business days. No merchandise will be produced for this year's event. If you have paid for something, you will also receive a refund for that item(s).
If you donated to a specific charity through the website, we will make sure those funds are passed along unless you let us know otherwise. If you would like that money to be refunded, please email [email protected] in the next seven days.
Alternative Events: If you're looking to participate in another triathlon this season, we recommend:
Trinona Triathlon - June 7-8
Hopkins Triathlon - August 30
Your Voice Matters: If you wish to express your concerns about this decision, you may contact:Chief of Police, Brian Tholen, South Lake (City of Excelsior) Police Department Email: [email protected] Phone: (952) 474-3261.
The Impact You've Made: While we are disappointed by this turn of events, we want to emphasize the tremendous positive impact your participation has had on our community. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your support has enabled us to: Donate over $50,000 to local charities, enabling the continued beauty of the Commons and sending under privileged kids to summer camps, support local businesses in Excelsior and surrounding communities and provide the ability for thousands of people to compete and push themselves to their personal bests
We are exploring all options for future events and locations, and we haven't made any decisions yet on what 2026 and beyond will look like. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Sincerely,
Mike Rogers
