Beyond the Mountain Top MLK Community Celebration

Beyond the Mountain Top MLK Community Celebration Join us to honor MLK's legacy & envision what lies beyond the mountaintop for our city!

Held annually in Evansville on the Saturday before Dr. King's holiday, this celebration brings people of all ages together for a day of learning, service, & unity. Join us in Evansville, Indiana, for the annual Beyond the Mountain Top MLK Community Celebration! Held each year during the weekend before the MLK holiday in January, this event focuses on education, service, and celebration in honor of

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy. Among the highlights of this celebration are a Joint Day of Service on Saturday morning from 8-12, uniting local colleges and community members in service projects. In the afternoon, from 2-6, enjoy the Community Festival at the CK Newsome Center with food trucks, vendors, a community art exhibition for all ages, a resource fair, and a designated Kids Zone packed with activities and performances. At 4PM, a special program will feature inspiring speakers, poetry, music, and dance. Organized by the Evansville African American Museum and powered by a diverse and passionate committee of community partners, this celebration invites us all to go beyond the mountain top and carry Dr. King’s vision forward into the future he dreamed of, together.

Beyond the Mountain Top is proud to spotlight this year's FEATURED ARTIST, Corderro Stith!

A self-taught artist with over a decade of experience, Stith’s work pulses with energy, blending bold creativity and purpose. His murals, celebrating legends and changemakers, are woven into the fabric of the region, becoming a testament to resilience and vision, while his role as a mentor continues to inspire the next generation of artists. Recognized for his impactful collaborations and award-winning projects, Stith continues to expand his reach through WELIGHTITUP LLC. “It’s important to me to show my work in this show because when people see it, they can start to believe that they can do it too,” he shares.

Stith’s work is a reminder to create boldly and light it up for the world to see.

See two of his pieces in the Community Art Show Gallery and meet him in person in the Kids Zone!
