Hey everyone - Downtown Ely here.
You've probably seen plenty already from U.S. Forest Service-Superior National Forest, Ely Echo , WELY Radio and the Ely Community Response on evacuations, air quality, and daily logistics. So much gratitude for them as they keep everyone informed.
A quick note from Downtown Ely:
Many shops are staying open for anyone who wants a place to be - circulating air, a bit of quiet, a break from the smoke. Others have chosen to close due to staffing issues or until air quality improves. Both are the right call, depending on the shop and the day.
That goes for you, too. Come downtown if that's what makes sense for you. Stay home and focus on what you need if that's what makes sense instead. Physical safety, emotional safety, your own bandwidth - you get to decide, and there's no wrong answer right now.
Keep an eye out - there may come a moment where we ask you to really show up for these businesses. Rain, cleaner air, stabilization.. when that moment comes, we'll let you know, and we hope you'll answer the call!
For now: we're all balancing a lot of concern, questions, and what-ifs. Do what's right for you today - and thanks for supporting our town in all the ways you can.
