Hey FLSCON Family!

We've got a big one for you: Robert E. Hampson is joining us as our STEAM Guest of Honor, headlining this year's STEAM lineup! His sci-fi credentials come from titles like The Moon and the Desert and Across an Ocean of Stars — but that's just his night job. By day, he's a professor of regenerative medicine, neuroscience, neurology, and biomedical engineering, and it shows in his writing: Mars geography, mission architecture, and bionics research all find their way onto the page, giving his science that lived-in, true-to-life feel.

This is your chance to talk shop with someone who researches the science behind the fiction and then goes home and writes it. In case you didn't know, Marisa is our Mistress of Ceremonies! Marisa Wolf is a second-generation nerd who started writing genre stories at six. At least one was good enough to be laminated, and she’s been chasing that high ever since. Over the years she taught middle school, was headbutted by an alligator, built a career in education, earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and finally decided to finish all the half-started stories in her head.

She’s written in many corners of SFF, including shared universes like the bestselling Four Horseman Universe and the anything-goes urban fantasy of Hit World, as well as video and table-top gaming tie-in stories. Her debut solo novel, Beyond Enemies with Baen Books, is a blend of military scifi, space opera, and general snarky banter, and the genre-blending continues in the multi-author Valkyries series she runs, which kicked off with her own Valkyrie’s Chosen.

Please welcome Mark Wandrey! He is an American author known for his military sci-fi, space opera, and zombie apocalypse series. He has been creating new worlds and writing about them for a long time, with a preference for the novel form over shorter stories. Wandrey’s works include the Four Horsemen universe, the Earth Song series, and the Turning Point series. His writing has been recognized with multiple awards, including a finalist spot for a Dragon Award in the Best Apocalyptic Novel category. Kevin’s head has been in the clouds since he was old enough to read. Ask him and he’ll tell you that he still wants to be an astronaut. With over twenty five years of experience in space science education, including managing the U.S. Space Camp program and serving as an executive of two Challenger Learning Centers, Kevin continues to work with space every day. Her debut novel The Wizard's Way (co-written with Jacob Holo) is a steampunk romp featuring awkward wizards and dapper swordfighting pugs, while her Monster Punk Horizon series pays loving homage to monster hunting, collecting, and befriending—earning comparisons to Terry Pratchett, the Monster Hunter games, and anime isekai adventures. The hotel room block for FLSCON 2027 is now officially open!

Rooms are available at a discounted rate of $129 per night from Thursday through Monday. If you attempt to book and the discounted rate does not appear, please do not complete your reservation. Instead, contact us via Messenger or email Joel Lyons at [email protected] so we can request that additional rooms be released. Please reserve your room as early as possible. Booking early helps us ensure adequate space, secure an overflow hotel if necessary, and accurately gauge attendance for planning. Note that no payment is required at the time of booking.

Shami is a multi-award-winning author of fantasy and science fiction whose imaginative worlds have captivated readers worldwide. Before becoming a full-time author, she earned a BA in History from Stanislaus State and a Juris Doctorate from the Laurence Drivon School of Law, later teaching history and criminal law at the college level. Born in Utah, raised in California, and now residing in Kansas, Shami draws inspiration from her lifelong love of storytelling, video games, and mythical creatures—passions that shine through in beloved series like the Frith Chronicles, which fans often describe as "Harry Potter meets Pokémon."
