USS Mighty Mississippi is a Star Trek themed science fiction group located in Davenport IA., based along the banks of the Mississippi River. We are a chapter of one of the world's oldest fan club organizations; Starfleet Command Quadrant One, (SFCQ1) based in Indiana. ross the United States. Although we have modeled ourselves in the Star Trek realm, we enjoy many different forms of sci-fi and encourage anyone who likes the genre to join. (Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, Babylon 5, Firefly... and the list goes on!)
We often add a bit of 'real' science and technology just for the fun of it but, the group's main purpose is having FUN while discussing and promoting the Sci-fi genre. It also allows us an outlet for our creative thoughts, ideas and abilities. The local group meets once monthly to discuss publication and articles for our newsletter, "Mississippi Current" and to discuss upcoming Community and Club projects, conventions and news in the genre. We attempt a bi-monthly outing for the group that may consist of anything from a shared meal, a few frames of bowling or visiting a local festival or event. The club is active in the local community with hands on involvement each quarter, assisting with donations and fundraisers for local not-for-profit groups.
