HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of my sculpture loving friends.
This is one of my favorite paintings by Harro Maass. The fruit basket in the painting was originally painted by Caravaggio and was on an Italian lira bill. (see it in comments)

1996 Allstar Fanfest in Cleveland, Ohio, I was sculpting on a baseball piece when Brooks walked into our booth. He wondered around looking at the bronze sculptures I had on display. One was a shortstop totally horizonal, stretching for a line-drive, connected by only one foot titled GOLDEN.
Brooks spent some time admiring it then came over to me as I was working. “Are you Robert Hogan?’
“Yes.”
“That sculpture over there titled GOLDEN…I’m going to start telling people that’s me.”
“Well, thank you but Brooks you won’t have to do that. I’ll do a sculpture of you if you give me permission to do so.”
“You would? That would be great, just go for it. You have my permission.”
That was the start of our relationship. I did a sculpture of him and surprised him with the #1 of the edition of 36 two years later at the Allstar Fanfest in Denver.
He was so appreciative and thankful. From then on, he would call me just to thank me again and chat for a couple of minutes. Our conversations would always start like this.
My phone rings, “Hello, Bob Hogan.”
“Hello, this is Brooks.”
“I only know one Brooks.”
“That me.” Then we would chuckle and have our conversation.

It's Friday but Sunday's coming.

"FRIDAY BUT SUNDAY'S COMIN'"
Christ friends had many great days full of marvelous miracles. They believed he was the promised messiah. And he had told them what was to happen and they should not be fearful but still it was a sad day. When he was on the cross they had seen darkness, the earth was shaken and no doubt his friends’ emotions were spent. But there still remained a job to be done; they must bury him.
The title lets us know hope is on the way for the resurrection happened on that third day just as Jesus had promised and they experienced the joy after sadness.

He was born in the MANGER, but had to escape to Egypt so HE IS NOT THERE.
He was crucified on the CROSS, but had to be down by sunset so HE IS NOT THERE.
He was buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb, but it could not hold him so HE IS NOT THERE.
He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:6
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:3

“HE IS NOT HERE”
These are three of the main places where Christ touched our lives. First the manger where He took on humanity, then the cross where he took our sins upon Himself (past, present and future) and finally the tomb that is empty because He conquered death. Matthew 28:6
Be careful not to overlook the great personal news from Christ to each of us “Where I am you can be also”. John 14:3.

Brooks Robinson has died at age 86. He was a class act.
16 golden gloves as 3rd baseman.
He was left handed except for throwing and batting.
