Between The Brady’s and Triumphant Quartet, I brought Executive VP of the National Quartet Convention, and Board Member Jim Brady on stage where I presented Clarke Beasley the “Golden Key to Lake Country Jubilee.” We both shared with the audience that, together, we pledged to make sure the greatest days of Lake Country Jubilee are still ahead!!! It is our hope you share this vision!!!

A "ONE OF A KIND" NIGHT!
At Lake Country Jubilee, we try to make each concert a special experience. But our Gold City Reunion on May the 6th turned into a "one of a kind" night. From the reports we heard, our expectations were high. But, what happened far exceeded our wildest dreams! If we had just presented the first portion of the concert where Gold City, Jay Parrack & Vocal Event, and Jonathan Wilburn (Jordan needed some time off the road), it would have been a wonderful night. Gold City, once again, presented a lot of songs they took to the top of the charts since 1980. My goodness, what a treat it was to hear those wonderful songs again. Darren Morton was unable to make the trip, and Jay Parracks dad, Johnny Parrack, filled that spot- and more!! He's one of the few singers who can sing all four parts in a quartet. I had heard, over the years, what a fine singer he is, but I was still astonished. They finished their performance with a wonderful rendition of Glory Road. I joined the trio on that one, singing bass!! We received an extended standing ovation. And Jonathan Wilburn kicked off the evening with some of his hits such as "Love Without End, Amen" and "Jesus Will." Then, after the intermission, we kicked off, for the first time at LCJ, a "Gold City Reunion!!" For about 45 minutes, there was standing ovation after standing ovations as they sang hit after hit that Gold City had made famous since their founding in 1980! Then, all the singers from all three groups came on stage and sang Gold City's greatest hit "Midnight Cry!!" The crowd stood for almost the entire song, and then exploded is thunderous applause!!! If you who were not there, you missed one of the finest concerts we've presented in over a quarter of a century of presenting our Lake Country Jubilee Concerts!!! We had fans from all over, including several from Puerto Rico. It was indeed, another "one of a kind" night at Lake Country Jubilee. Check out our Lake Country Jubilee page for some "action" pictures! Hope you "like" them!!

What a night!! Jean and I have been gospel music fans since childhood on the farm. A lot of our dates in 1953 and 1954 were going to see The Statesmen and Blackwood Brothers when they would appear in the area. Some of our fondest memories are of their appearing at the old "Sportatorium" at Cadiz and Industrial in Dallas! They sang from the wrestling ring!! And now, 61 years later, we're still enjoying the music at Lake Country Jubilee. There has never been better than what we heard at Lake Country Jubilee last Saturday night. Everyone sang their heart's out. Wilburn & Wilburn alone would have been worth the trip!! Then,The Mark Trammell Quartet came on stage and gave their best performance-ever! Their new tenor, Blake Buffin, blew the crowd away. Mark really picked a winner this time! The The Booth Brothers came on stage to introduce their new member, Paul Lancaster. He fit in perfectly!! They featured Paul on several songs- including a wonderful "recitation" song "The Touch of The Master's Hand." It brought the house down!! Hope you were there to enjoy it! We had an amazing crowd from several states. Just a few empty seats in the upper corners! If we had not sat out the chairs, every seat would have been full. I've included a picture of the "brain trust"- Jonathan Wilburn, Michael Booth, and Mark Trammell meeting before the concert to solve the World's problems!!

I'm Baaaak!!! After an absence of several months due to technical problems, I'm back posting again. I'm starting with a picture of mine, and Jean's, 61st wedding anniversary celebration at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. We were joined by our son Brad and daughter-in-law Kathy. Ruth's Chris treated us with a wonderful "Happy Anniversary" dessert treat! Celebrating our anniversary at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse has been our practice for about 20 years. It's always fun!!! Other posts will follow soon.

LAKE COUNTRY JUBILEE
CONCERT UPDATE
April 29, 2014

A TRADITION CONTINUES
To many fans, gospel music is "static." That is, it's meant to be sung by four guys around a piano. And sure enough, that's the foundation on which we build today. But, at Lake Country Jubilee we're always looking for "new" talent that God is using to bless His children- and reach the lost. Over the years, we found The Booth Brothers, Greater Vision, The Hoppers and many others too numerous to list here. About a decade ago, we added The Collingsworth Family to that list and Lake Country Jubilee has never been the same! A lot of groups have a great pianist, but there's only one Kim Collingsworth! Once, she walked onto our stage that was dimly lit, and without a word, started playing "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and ended with the "Hallelujah Chorus." The capacity crowd silently stood, and remained standing, until the end! To say the ovation was "thunderous" understates what happened. Several souls were saved that night!! And, that doesn't even mention their six wonderful voices, twin violins, or Phil's thrilling trumpet playing. And for the "purist", joining the Collingsworth Family will be Triumphant Quartet, America's Favorite Quartet, and Southern Sound. And, it all happens May 17th at the "live edition" of Lake Country Jubilee at the beautiful Terrell Performing Arts Center, 400 Poetry Road in Terrell Texas. The Music starts at 6:30PM. The lobby opens at 5:30PM. Tickets are still available at our 6 ticket outlets, by phone (800-580-2697, and online. Go to www.lakecountryjubilee.com for complete details. Several churches are already making plans to attend. Has yours? We've already sent tickets to fans as far away as Sweden!! Be sure and join us and see what the excitement is all about as we present The Collingsworth Family, Triumphant, and Southern Sound on May 17th at Lake Country Jubilee!!! Below is a picture of Kim at the grand piano when "Heaven Came Down!" Also, when Triumphant Quartet joined in. And the Collingsworth thrilling the crowd last year.

When we started Lake Country Jubilee in 1991, gospel music was losing popularity, in radio and at concerts. With the death of Frank Stamps in 1965, the famous Stamps Quartet soon left its historic home in Dallas and became, primarily, a "back-up" group for Elvis Presley. Soon the Chuck Wagon Gang disappeared from Dallas radio. Nothing replaced them. Dallas, the "cradle of gospel music" became a "black hole", as far as gospel music was concerned. Some radio stations tried the format, but mixed it with "preaching ministries" to pay the bills. Their earnest attempts proved unsuccessful. Others DJ's tried who were professionals in "radio." Through the years they had done rock, country, big band, bluegrass, and assorted other genres. This was their turn at gospel. Nothing seemed to work very well. When Jean and I started Lake Country Jubilee, it soon became apparent a successful radio presence was a necessity, not an option. But, I had a couple of advantages: #1. I had never "worked" in radio. #2. I had a totally different background. I had started singing gospel music in 1938 as a "share-cropper" while reading by coal-oil lamps, drinking water from cisterns, traveling in "mule-drawn" wagons, and trying to survive the "great depression." I knew, first hand, that our music could give strength to the weary, make an endless day in the cotton field survivable, help a broken heart to heal, and still make a heart sing through it all! This may help explain why our Lake Country Jubilee Concerts and radio programs have a different "feel" and "sound." Thanks for all who come, and tune-in, for your loyal support through the years. And, thanks to you, we're still bringing you "the world's greatest music"- and the best is yet to come!!

I'm pretty sure, as we approach heaven, we'll hear choirs of angels singing out a "welcome" to the new arrivals. Then, the angels will step aside as the saints, in perfect harmony, enter singing "the Song of the Redeemed!" But, here on earth, those of us who listen to gospel music have a head start! We are blessed to hear the world's greatest voices, singing the most beautiful music ever written, telling the greatest story ever told!! And, at Lake Country Jubilee, we try to give you a glimpse of what heaven holds. And, no better example can be found than Brooklyn, Courtney, and Kim Collingsworth at their annual appearance. Heaven will be better, I'm sure. But, until then, we'll see you at Lake Country Jubilee!! Thanks to Laverne Grant for the picture.

A journey always has a starting point- a place where it all began. Lake Country Jubilee's birth was in 1991 as a Sunday School class "fundraiser" concert to help build a new church auditorium. We packed out the house! After the new building was completed, I asked the church for permission to use the new facility once a month for a gospel concert. They agreed and Lake Country Jubilee was born. We outgrew the church auditorium and moved to a civic center, then to a larger municipal auditorium. In 2005, we moved to the newly completed Terrell Performing Arts Center in Terrell Texas. We know of no other facility in North Texas that can match it for comfort, sound, ease of use for artists and fans, and beauty. We've already shown you some "inside" views, but I thought you might like to share with some of your Facebook friends an "outside" view of where our concerts are held. It's unsurpassed- inside and out!! Feel free to to use this post to invite a friend to join you at our Lake Country Jubilee concerts. They are "life-changing" presentations. Thank to LaVerne Grant for the photograph.

It's easy to think, if you listen to the daily news, that we've lost a generation or two to a world gone mad. But, you could be wrong. One of the greatest "bright spots" in an otherwise bleak picture, is what's happening in gospel music. I've been singing gospel music since 1938, and listening even longer, and I'm convinced our greatest days are ahead! We have the greatest generation I've ever seen taking their place of leadership and we're so delighted to let them shine at Lake Country Jubilee. Just look at (young folks from l-r) Courtney, Olivia, Philip, and Scotty and you'll see what I mean. All started on our stage as pre-teen or teenagers. And that just scratches the surface!! Thanks for your loyal support as we continue to bring hope to a world in need.

Gospel music is unique. No other form of music celebrates "the family" so wonderfully. From 6 to 60, and beyond, everyone finds joy and strength in our music. And no group makes that connection like the Collingsworth Family. If you haven't brought some "young-un" to Lake Country Jubilee, try it sometime. I promise, they'll be pleasantly surprised. Especially with talent like the Collingsworth Family to enjoy. Thanks to LaVerne Grant for capturing the scene.
