As America250 prepares to celebrate 250 years, we honor the music, memories, and moments that helped tell our nation’s story.

Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys gave America a sound all their own — full of heart, grit, and Texas swing. Their 1945 song “Stars and Stripes on Iwo Jima” captured the spirit of a nation during World War II and honored one of the most powerful images in American history: the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima.

As we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, may we remember the courage behind the flag, the sacrifice behind our freedom, and the music that carried those stories from one generation to the next. 🎻🇺🇸

It's Music Friendly Monday!!!

This week we visit one of the newest Music Friendly Texas Communities: Athens!

The city of Athens was recently designated as the 93rd Certified Music Friendly Texas Community through the Texas Music Office, recognizing its commitment to supporting local musicians, live music venues, and cultural tourism. The certification was formally presented by TMO’s Gini Mascorro and Steve Ray, underscoring the state’s support for Athens’ growing music economy and community-driven cultural initiatives. This designation highlights Athens’ ongoing efforts to foster engagement, preserve its musical heritage, and expand opportunities for artists and audiences alike.

A cornerstone of that heritage is the Athens Old Fiddlers Reunion, which celebrated its 95th anniversary with special recognition from Governor Greg Abbott. In an official letter, the Governor honored the reunion’s longstanding role in preserving traditional fiddle music, strengthening community identity, and contributing to Texas’ broader cultural legacy. Together, the Music Friendly certification and the anniversary recognition highlight Athens’ enduring significance as a hub for music, tradition, and community pride in Texas.
