Hey friends!
I am currently running for one of the CLAS Honor Committee Representative positions and would love y'all's support!
For the past three years I have served as a Support Officer for the Honor Committee; in this time I have primarily been an Advisor for Students responsible for making sure that students who have been reported have a stable emotional, and informational support. I have seen firsthand the benefits the system awards the community as well as the severe drawbacks and detriments it imposes on us.
The greatest dishonor is to pretend like this system is only sunshine, rainbows, and an aesthetic coat-tail to ride on. The Honor system is not perfect--far from it, in fact, and it is about time we started having candid conversations about the future of the system so we can do what is best for our community.
If elected, I have two primary goals. First, I hope to revamp and reprioritize education/ outreach. No student should suffer through the system just because they or their reporters have a lack of awareness on the implications it has. Second, I want to extensively entertain and formulate possible alternative sanctions, whether this means replacing what we have with a multi-sanction system or implementing peripheral measures to alleviate the (unnecessary) burden placed on students by the single sanction
