SMU’s Lori Ann Stephens captivated audiences with her novel Blue Running and had the chance to discuss its themes alongside other local authors on our “Writers in Our Backyard” panel.

Set in a near-future Texas, Stephens’ book explores themes that resonate deeply in today’s climate. During her panel, she unpacked the urgent issues woven into her narrative—reproductive rights, banned books, and sweeping policy changes: drawing clear parallels between fiction and our current sociopolitical moment.
