β’ β’ β’ β’ β’
Dear CKM&A friends,
It brings great pleasure to share a new chapter for Christopher and CKM&A. Starting in January 2024, Christopher will become the Artistic Director of Malashock Dance & Company in San Diego, California. Current Artistic Director John Malashock will transition to the position of Founding Director, where he will remain on the Board and involved in various aspects of Company productions and community engagement. Malashock Dance, founded by John Malashock in 1988, is one of California's foremost dance companies known for its innovation, creativity, and commitment to educational and artistic excellence in the field of dance. In addition to Johnβs thoughtful artistic leadership, Christopher is looking forward to working closely with Malashock Dance & Companyβs incredible Executive Director, Molly Puryear, and the entire Malashock staff and team.
Christopher is no stranger to Malashock Dance & Company, having begun his dance career as a company member from 1995 to 1998. "After beginning my dance career 28 years ago at Malashock Dance & Company, it is an incredible honor to return to the organization in a leadership capacity. John's artistry and leadership has resonated throughout my career. It is a thrilling opportunity to sustain John's work while bringing a fresh perspective from the array of experiences I've had since I last lived in San Diego. I look forward to learning more about the current San Diego arts community and supporting the growth and deepening of the arts ecology in San Diego and beyond,β says Morgan.
San Diego will be Christopherβs new home as well as the home base for CKM&A. CKM&A collaborators have always spanned across Turtle Island/ The United States since the company began in 2011 as exemplified by our most recent evening length work Native Intelligence/Innate Intelligence with collaborators from Hawaiβi, California, New York, Maryland, and Washington DC. CKM&A will continue touring Native Intelligence/Innate Intelligence in 2024 and 2025, as well as begin the creative process for N(8)tive Enough, a Creative Capital funded work tentatively premiering in 2025.
Community support and collaboration are shared core values of Malashock Dance & Company and CKM&A. Both organizations are excited to discover ways they can collaborate and envision creating a new future together that lifts the the voices of a multitude of artists and engages wide-ranging communities with the power of dance. We look forward to having you be a part of the journey with us.
