Chatta-Griot spotlight: LaSha Rockymore-Mitchell

Creatives need more than applause.

They need space. Resources. Connections. Opportunities. And people willing to build the infrastructure that helps their creativity become something sustainable.

LaSha Rockymore-Mitchell has been doing just that.

LaSha is the founder of The Smart Oasis and founder and executive director of the Music, Fashion and Arts Foundation, building spaces and opportunities designed with creatives in mind.

Her work recognizes something important: creative people are not just making art. They are building businesses, shaping culture, creating jobs, telling our stories and contributing to the economic life of our community.

And that kind of work deserves support.

Through the Music, Fashion and Arts Foundation, LaSha has spent years connecting local creatives to resources, education, professional development, exposure and, just as importantly, one another. Through The Smart Oasis, she has created a physical home where creativity, entrepreneurship and community can meet.

There is something powerful about being a person who doesn’t just ask, “Where is the space for us?”

But instead says, “Let’s build it.”

That is part of LaSha’s contribution to Chattanooga’s creative story. She has been intentional about creating the rooms, platforms and pathways that allow other people to pursue their own ideas.

And this year, there is a milestone worth celebrating.

The Music, Fashion and Arts Foundation is celebrating five years of service to Chattanooga’s creative community, and on November 14, that work will be honored with the organization’s inaugural Creators Ball.

Five years of investing in creatives.

Five years of building community.

Five years of making room.

So while the Creators Ball will certainly be a celebration, today we want to celebrate one of the women who helped create the reason for the celebration in the first place.

Next stop on our trip down memory lane: KNOXVILLE

In 2022, Music, Fashion, & Arts Foundation took its first city tour beyond Chattanooga, bringing music, fashion, and arts to one of Knoxville’s most prestigious art facilities.

This moment marked the beginning of our expansion—and proved that MFA’s creative vision was bigger than one city. Knoxville, thank you for welcoming the movement!

Next stop on our journey down memory lane: NASHVILLE

In January 2023, the Music, Fashion, & Arts Foundation City Tour carried the movement to Music City—bringing together Tennessee’s music, fashion, and arts communities for another unforgettable celebration of creativity.

From Chattanooga to Knoxville and then Nashville, each stop showed us that the MFA vision was growing far beyond our hometown.
