WTSQ 88.1FM presents Risers Fest originally scheduled for October 10th-13th has been postponed until 2025 to allow for more extensive planning and preparation. This decision was made with careful consideration to ensure that the event delivers an exceptional experience for both performers and attendees, while also driving significant tourism and economic benefits to the Charleston, WV area.

Emmalea Deal & The Hot Mess is an electrifying alternative rock group originating in West Virginia. The band was properly established in 2023 by Emmalea Deal (rhythm guitar/vocals), Jarod Kerns (drums), plus new arrivals Josh Adams (lead guitar) and Cody Engnes (bass).

Frontwoman Emmalea was only thirteen when she embarked on her musical journey. Through different projects, touring, and genre changes over the last decade she grew into a captivating force within the local alternative/diy scene.

The four have since come together to unleash a gritty fusion of powerful vocals, clever lyrics, and insatiable riffs. Sounding sonically diverse within their songs, ranging from haunting female rage to pop-punk anthems and grungy garage rock.

WTSQ 88.1 FM PRESENTS: Risers Fest is happening on Thursday, October 10 - Sunday, October 13, 2024, and we want you to be part of this as we take over Charleston, WV’s, downtown footprint this October. We have bands traveling from all over the country for this event and we’ve got Mint Field from Mexico City 🇲🇽 playing the fest, too! Did you know that Bob Nastanovich from the legendary indie-rock band, Pavement, will be DJ’ing on Friday, 10/11 and on Sat, 10/12? Yup! Come meet Bob! Come out to discover a bunch of bands that you’ll be able to say you saw them before they got big! Let’s show the United States how incredible Charleston, West Virginia is!!!

There are so many bands out there, it’s hard to keep up. No, let’s try that again - there are so many great bands out there, and still, it’s hard to keep up.

We believe that we what we are bringing Charleston, WV, this October will be refreshing to an audience who appreciates Alternative Rock, Indie Rock, Post Punk, Shoegaze, Dream Pop, etc. There will be bands performing this October that are outside of the rock and roll genre but as Clint Thomas said in the Charleston Gazette-Mail, we will be rock and rollicking!

We believe that you’ll be able to walk into any of the venues in the downtown area of Charleston, WV, this October and discover some really fantastic bands you’ve never heard of before. To discover bands before they break, is something you can brag about to all your friends.

Please keep in mind: every band you’ve ever heard of was once a local band. Girl, you know it’s true.

And, they’re performing live on Friday, October 11, Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13, 2024. Rolling Stone included Pulsars on their ‘40 Greatest One-Album Wonders’ feature. 30. The Pulsars, ‘Pulsars’ (1997) One of the gems of the mid-Nineties alt-rock gold rush, the lone album by the brotherly duo the Pulsars is a shimmering collection of blissed-out synth-pop peppered with references to long drives to Wisconsin, pet robots and S*M. Dave and Harry Trumfio had collaborated on music since they were young; and Dave had worked with indie luminaries like the Mekons and the Handsome Family at his Chicago studio Kingsize Soundlabs.
