Put Big Light On is now in it's fourth year and our audience has grown with it. If you prefer a quieter visit you may feel more comfortable visiting on Thursday 19th November as this is our quietest day.

✨ Artist Opportunity: Bolton Light Art Festival 2026 ✨

Applications are now open for a commissioned artwork as part of Put Big Light On Festival 2026 in Bolton.

Artists working across visual art, digital, music, theatre, dance, or interdisciplinary practice are invited to propose a new light-based artwork for the festival’s public art trail in Bolton Town Centre.

📍 Location: Octagon Theatre Bolton
📅 Festival dates: 19–22 November 2026
💡 Commission fee: £13,000

Now in its fourth year, Put Big Light On has become a major cultural event in the North West, featuring immersive light installations across Bolton’s civic spaces and attracting wide public audiences.

The festival is co-curated by Bolton Council and Things That Go on Things.

With the sunshine out, it feels like the right time to share some exciting news — Put Big Light On 2026 is on the way!

We’re thrilled to welcome Helios by Luke Jerram, alongside the stunning Dundu light puppets and the much loved Spark! performance troupe.

There’s plenty more planned, but for now, please save the date and get ready for a magical light art festival in 2026.
