The aim of the Cedar River Film Festival is to promote and present films made in the American Heartland (aka The Midwest). Our festival is based in Iowa, and we love how much creativity and diversity there is in Iowa and the states whose borders we share--you know who you are: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska. The Cedar River Film Festival 2025 will take place on October 31st and November 2nd at the Historic Oster Regent Theatre in Cedar Falls, Iowa just a stone’s throw away from (you guessed it) the Cedar River. Day 1: We will kick off our festival on October 31st with your offerings of horror films, sci fi and adult comedy to celebrate Halloween and all the things creepy and scary (heck, this year some political documentaries might quality). Day 2: Enjoy a day of Shorts, Features, and Documentaries that celebrate stories about the American Heartland. The Cedar River Film Festival is an annual event hosted by the Cedar Falls Community Theatre at the Historic Oster Regent Theatre in Cedar Falls Iowa.

After my first watch of the film Jane Elliot Against the World, I was moved, inspired, and realized if there is one film that captures the mission and vision of what the Ceder River Film Festival is all about, it's her story. Not only because of the way she changed the conversation about race in American but also about how even now at 92, she's still fighting. - David Dein, Festival Jury Member.

Jane Elliot, subject of the film Jane Elliott Against the World will be graciously joining us for a Q&A after the screening of the film. Grab some great insight and inspiration from this amazing Iowan. Tickets are available at https://www.mycfct.org/crff

Three Midwestern farmers challenge the longstanding dominance of corn and soybeans, betting their livelihoods on a more diverse vision of agriculture—and proving that the future of America's corn belt depends on rebuilding not just farms, but rural communities.

For generations, the American Corn Belt has become increasingly defined by two crops: corn and soybeans. While this system has fueled remarkable productivity, it has also left many farmers vulnerable to volatile markets, degraded soils, disappearing rural businesses, and shrinking communities.
