Well it’s official. Momma G’s Herbal Blends will be at the North Spencer Christian Academy Craft Fair on November 2nd. I will have all my favorites there prepackaged AND I will have all the loose leaf teas, herbs and spices to blend your own custom blend.

You have to try my newest blend called MY CHAI. Feels like a good cup of tea, a blanket and a good book. Smooth, yet spicy! I’ve been drinking it as a sun tea!

Thanks to my kiddos for the name! Without their support, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to start my side hustle!

PS. I’m still making elderberry syrup!

Then God made a farmer’s wife.
Up before her husband, making coffee and a sandwich in the go. Getting the kids up, feeding the family dog, making another breakfast and getting the kids to school. Bottle feeding calves and milking when she just wants that time with her husband, or even better that she enjoys it just as much as he does. Bringing sandwiches and ice cold water to her husband in the middle of a field in a hot summer day. Baby on her hip and two tag along children. The look of love and joy in their eyes when they see his tractor coming over the rise. The wife that washes oodles of laundry, has her own flock of chickens, and makes homemade sourdough bread because it’s better for you. The wife that makes a home, balances the books, hosts Bible studies, and still finds time to coach soccer practice. The wife that any time of the day or night helps with the sick calf, cow or heifer without batting an eye. The wife that fills in when an employee calls off or the barn or field needs an extra hand. She milks cows, throws hay, gets parts, births calves, fixes boo boos, wipes tears, gives her babies baths and tucks them in with a bedtime prayer. Just to do it again tomorrow and everyday. So God made a farmer’wife.

From wikipedia's
The Woman's Land Army of America (WLAA), later the Woman's Land Army (WLA), was a civilian organization created during the First and Second World Wars to work in agriculture replacing men called up to the military. Women who worked for the WLAA were sometimes known as farmerettes.[1] The WLAA was modeled on the British Women's Land Army.[2]

Throughout history women have been called up to a greater service when it comes to stepping into roles predominantly held by men. The WLA is such a group of women that took over the farming needs of their families while their husbands went off to war. Not only only did the women farm the land but they were also caring for their children. Meeting their needs when farming is a sunup to sundown job proved to be very challenging. But women prevailed and farm life continued to support their livelihoods and the economy. The backbone of America, farming, continues to flourish under many women- owned agricultural establishments. From CSA's to Organic grass-fed beef to goat milk made products, the life of a female "farmher" here in the Fingerlakes, of New York State proves to be strong and thriving.

A series of local farms will be showcased here on . These are difficult times that we, as mothers, are facing. Providing food and even finding food to feed our families can be stressful. These are well established business with deep roots in family traditions and farming.

So the long process begins. Sitting here pulling berries from the stem and I looked down at my hands and had a bit of a deja vu. I had an image of my mother sitting at the table doing the same thing. The smell of the tart berries in the air and her purple stained hands plucking every single one with gentle care. I love the knowledge and passion passed down from one generation to the next.

Today we are spotlighting a local dairy farm in Spencer, NY who have added raising and selling organic beef. I have known the Bast family for 20 years and every interaction I have had with them has been memorable. I specifically recall Matt having a passion for the family business at a very young age. By the time he was 12 I had the privilege of watching him proficiently manage all the tasks on a dairy operation.
Today, Matt and McKinley have taken their dairy operation and expanded it to include selling cuts of organic beef at their farm.
Please consider contacting McKinley and purchasing local beef for your families needs. McKinley's own words of welcome are below. The 5th picture is their contact information. Thank you so much for you time!

Hi I’m McKinley, the farmers wife or the as some might say. We are Bast family farm, a small organic dairy in Spencer NY. My husband Matt took the farm over from his parents in 2011 and we have grown our Herd of Holstein/Holstein crosses since then. 4 years ago we decided to add a small beef herd of angus crosses to the mix. We sell our beef mainly by the cut here at the farm. No order is too small. We believe that a good connection between farmers and consumers is what helps keep the agricultural industry going! It brings us joy to know that we are giving you a quality product for your family!
