Hey Guys…

For any of y’all who weren’t able to attend or watch the livestream of my dad’s funeral yesterday, I’ve added a link in the comments below where you can watch the entire service.

It was an absolutely beautiful day… a heartbreakingly beautiful day. The music, the speakers, the love & support… it was all just staggering.

Thank you to everyone who attended, everyone who watched from afar, and all of the amazing speakers, musicians & people behind the scenes who helped make the day so special for my dad, my family & the entire Camden community.

I’m also going to include a link to donate to the newly established Rusty Davis Guitar Scholarship at the University of South Carolina. Absolutely zero pressure, of course… but if any of y’all would like to help keep my dad’s musical legacy alive by supporting future generations of musicians, my entire family & I would be forever grateful.

Music is magic… this weekend proved it over and over.

I love you, Dad… so many people do.

Hey everyone, Patrick’s wife here.

Today is the funeral for Patrick’s father Rusty.
2PM Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church

If you are unable to attend, the church will be live streaming the service (link to youtube on second slide).

Also, in Rusty’s honor, the Rusty Davis Guitar Endowed Scholarship has been established at The University Of South Carolina. So in his name, music will live on.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to the scholarship fund to support young musicians. Rusty would’ve loved that.

Last Tuesday night I had no idea I was playing my last gig with my old man… but if it had to be the last one, I suppose a night at the SC Governor’s Mansion celebrating “Carolina When I Die” becoming a State Song — with Darius & Edwin and members of my Midnight Choir on stage — well… that’s not such a bad way to say goodbye.

This video is from my sweet mom’s phone… it’s a lil’ shaky and her lens was not exactly clean… but that doesn’t matter now, because from this angle you can really see my Pops, listen to him play and see his big smile… I am positive this video will forever help me & the whole family remember a beautiful moment from a night that means even more to us now than it did just a week ago. :)

Love you, Dad… thank you for always playin’ beside me. I will always miss you… but I also know I will always hear you there.

I have no doubt that this one is going to be pure magic.

Next September I am taking Songwriters In Paradise to Ireland for what I truly believe is gonna be one of the most special SIPs myself, Lauren & the team have ever put together.

Galway. Dublin. Shannon… and a few beautiful stops in between.

Music, castles, country roads, old Irish pubs, incredible food & drink (lots of Guinness), beautiful hotels, a few pretty special shows… and a whole lotta once in a lifetime time together with some of my favorite people on the planet.

This is gonna be so much more than 3 SIP shows in stunning Irish venues (those will be announced soon)… it’s going to be a full SIP adventure through one of the most extraordinary places on Earth.

We’re now accepting inquiries for a very limited number of VIP & Super VIP packages (who will be with us the entire journey)… and they’re already movin’.

THANK YOU SOUTH CAROLINA

Tuesday evening I had the incredible honor of being invited to the South Carolina Governor’s Mansion by Governor Henry McMaster & First Lady Peggy McMaster to celebrate “Carolina When I Die” — featuring Darius Rucker & Edwin McCain — becoming an Official State Song of South Carolina.

It was a beautiful evening filled with family, friends, smiles, laughs & a whole lotta love for our state, its history, people & music.

Darius, Edwin & I received beautiful plaques, we had a ceremonial bill signing by the Governor — the song actually became state law in May — & then the 3 of us, along with Pops, Lauren & the Midnight Choir, played some music… including the first ever live performance of “Carolina When I Die” by all 3 of us together.

Thank you to everyone who created this moment…

1. My talented co-writers Levi Lowrey, Wyatt Durrette & Kevin McDonald… we did well. :)

2. Everyone who worked on the recording — musicians, engineers, mastering folks & all.

3. My friends in the SC Legislature who made this bill happen. Watching a bill move through the House & Senate was fascinating & it takes an extraordinary amount of work. Thank you Cody Mitchell & Jeffrey for championing this song… and Hobart Trotter, Joannie Nickel, Vincent Sheheen, Tom Mullikin, Daniel Roberts, Daniel Rickenmann & everyone else who helped along the way.

4. Henry McMaster… thank you for loving music & South Carolina the way you do. Music, songwriting, poetry & storytelling matter… and you, my friend, know that to be true.

And last… Darius Rucker & Edwin McCain. I’ll never be able to thank you enough. I wanted “Carolina When I Die” to be a song South Carolinians would hear & hopefully feel the way I do about where we call home… and I knew if the 3 of us were the voices, maybe we had a chance.

As Darius whispered to me while we received the plaques…

“The Carolina Boys.”

Yep. Exactly. :)
