Been a little quiet on socials this week, but I’ve got some good things coming up…

SIP is heading back to both wine county (July) & bourbon country (Oct), TV tapings in Shelby, NC & Charleston, SC - tickets, line ups and more very soon -, Midnight Choir shows, new music in the works and still makin’ sure folks hear the old tunes too. :)

Lucky & grateful for it all… always.

More info on my site.

Much love!

82 Years Ago Today on the morning of June 6th, 1944 my grandfather Russell Jennings Davis and more than 150,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France with the fate of the free world depending on their success.

I don’t think any of us alive today can truly fathom what these men were asked to accomplish… I don’t think any of us can imagine what those pilots were facing… what those paratroopers were feeling as they jumped through the clouds from those planes… what prayers the men on those boats, like my grandfather, were whispering over the waves… or the absolute hell on earth that every single one of them faced on those beaches.

I far too often seem to forget that the freedoms and the blessings we enjoy in our world today only exist because of the unimaginable sacrifices men like my grandfather made, and so many brave men and women are still making today.

June 6th, 1944.

Thank you to my grandfather. Thank you to all of them. May we always remember, and may we never repeat.

Completely blown away by how many of y’all have connected with “Carolina When I Die”.

We wrote it about South Carolina… but it’s truly just a song about home… wherever that may be for you.

Thank you.

Camden, SC ~ Thank You

Saturday night’s 5th Annual Where I’m From Festival was a beautiful evening of music and community.

Thank you to everyone who made it out — of course that includes all of our music-loving locals, but also folks from Atlanta, New York, Charleston, Charlotte, and even Germany who made the trip.

Thanks to my Midnight Choir, Lauren, Levi, Seth, and Taylor for sharing their time and talents… and to the folks behind the scenes who you probably don’t know, but absolutely should: Alex, Wayne, Nick, Matt, Easton, Hailey, and everyone else who helped make the night happen. Shout out to the sponsors too.

And how about the three Young Storytellers of Kershaw County who shared their poems and short stories about growing up in this place we call home? They were incredible, and as South Carolina Poet Laureate, I can’t wait to showcase more storytellers across our great state soon.

It takes a village. Where I’m From taught me that many moons ago… and this weekend reminded me of that all over again.

Much love, gang.
