To demonstrate the arts positive benefits toward the revitalization of inner-city neighborhoods, Perkins Center has constructed permanent community murals in Camden since 1995. Both mural and community garden projects are designed to generate community interest, involvement, and ultimately, pride. The Trenton Downtown Association is looking for quality artists and crafts people to display and sell their work at our summer festivals, Wednesdays on Warren (WOW) and the Capital City Market (CCM).

What's completely amazing about these murals is that this process unites hundreds of artists together to create one unified masterpiece. Started in 2004 by Lewis Lavoie, Phil Alain and Paul Lavoie, mural mosaics are assembled after taking a single painting from an individual and placing it in sequence. The painters have to is adhere to some color and shape guidelines. The collaborative nature of these paintings is what is so exciting. Viewed as a standalone piece, each piece of art can be appreciated. But a surprise awaits when you step back and see the collective masterpiece.

The Trenton Mural Arts Project was represented at at The Teen Arts Festival held at Mercer County College where one of our local artists, Robin Robinson, initiated a mural mosaic project with the students. The project was displayed at Artworks "Art All Night 2011". These mural mosaics are the perfect types of collaborative projects for the community in Trenton. We are looking forward to the next one. Don't forget Community Paint Day has been moved to Sunday, April 17!! There will be refreshments and music, and more importantly, painting! Adults and children welcome. NOON to 3 p.m. Home Rubber Co., corner of Cass and Route 129.
