UBcon Nerf Army

Id like to take a moment to thank you all, the community that makes UBcon what it is.
This event has given me so much throughout the years. I have been attending since 2011, and every year it manages to give me something more; New friends, new experiences, and dart welts all over my body. Ive also gained an amazing amount of support from y'all, even with all the complications and all the issues. I am deeply thankful for and humbled by y'all's patience with all the speed bumps this year. I had an amazing time, and I can't wait to see you all next year.
That being said...
I am officially handing the Head Admin position back to a student. UBcon is student run, after all, and I was merely the stand-in. I am grateful for the chance to have taken on the task for several years, and I'd like to thank SARPA for giving me the chance to be such a monumental part of not only UBcon, but an event that has been such a big part of my life. Again, thank you all for your support, have a good night, and stay safe. I love you all. Don't ever forget that.

UBcon is only FOUR DAYS AWAY!! As we put the last touches on supplies for the Nerf War, we'd like to remind you all of some of this year's major developments:

- Eye protection is REQUIRED AT ALL TIMES FOR ALL PERSONS WITHIN THE PLAY AREA. We have pairs to hand out as well as access to the WNY Nerf Club's stock of eye-pro. Eye-pro can be sunglasses, safety glasses, shooting glasses, goggles, helmets, or masks, so long as you can clearly see through them and they will stop a dart.
- We will have an OBSERVATION DECK marked off which will give spectators a decent view without getting in the way.
- There will COVER PLACED THROUGHOUT THE FIELD in an attempt to break up larger areas and give players more maneuverability.
- DART DONATIONS CAN BE MADE AT PROP CHECK. ACCEPTED BRANDS ARE ADVENTURE FORCE, NERF, X-SHOT, AND WORKER. Packaging must be unopened and untampered with in order to be accepted. Please keep in mind if you are donating a box of darts, you may not receive the full box's amount back because these are being added to the yearly supply.
- There is a PRESHOW BEFORE ORIENTATION both nights in the STUDENT UNION THEATER. Both pre-shows start at 10pm, with orientation beginning at 11pm, and gameplay beginning at 12am.

‼️ ATTENTION UBCON NERF ARMY ‼️

Due to a recent incident in Albuquerque, UB's Student Association has deemed that dart blasters are TOO DANGEROUS FOR PLAY. In response to this, we are changing the Nerf War to a Silly String War.
This may be disappointing to some, but we'd like to point out that silly string does not require you to wear eye-protection or do chronograph checks. On top of this, the janitorial staff can simply use the giant toilet drain installed in the Student Union to literally flush everything away. Finally, if you haven't yet figured it out, take note of today's date and have a good April Fool's Day.

!!Eye-pro has been ordered and an announcement about darts!!

We now have a brand new stock of eye-pro coming in to hand out as loaners if you do not have a pair, since eye-pro is required going forward. There will be close to 175 pairs in total by the time UBcon rolls around, so please keep in mind that it will be a limited stock on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Second, while we do already have a stock of darts built up, we have decided to open up dart donations. Here are the requirements for donating darts:

1) Only approved brands will be accepted. These include Hasbro, Adventure Force/Dart Zone, X-Shot, and Worker.

2) Packages must be completely sealed, meaning within the original shrink wrap or unopened in their plastic bag.

3) By donating darts, you understand that you may not have the full stock you provided returned to you after the Nerf War, however we will make sure you have enough to load the mags you brought.

Please note you are allowed to use the darts that came with your blaster.

!!Major Updates!!

First, the new rule video has been finished and will premiere at this UBcon when we do orientation in the Student Union Theater! This video goes over the actual gameplay rules, but don't worry, we'll still show the classic rule video for the sweet nostalgia and to cover a few other tips for keeping the game safe.
Second, event posters are in the works! Look out for these WW1-themed posters around campus in the coming weeks, made by your trusty commander and friend of the con Janine Crane.
Third, KERMIT THE FROG HAS JOINED THE UBCON NERF ARMY! Disregarding his philosophy of non-violence, Kermit was quoted as saying, "When the whistle blows, it's every muppet into the hallway; No slacking or I'll tag you myself." Kermit was last seen rushing the Third Floor with his elite team, the Lily Leapers, and has not been heard from since.

... Okay, the last one isn't true, but a girl can dream...

Filming done, shots sequenced, and voiceover synced! Next steps will be effects editing and adding music then it's ready for the premier at this year's UBcon! Peak cinema. This classic video from back in the day includes a few tips on how to stay safe while flinging foam in a furious frenzy for the flag, and features Dave Schwartz, a man who was a cornerstone of the UBcon community.
A new video is in the works to cover the newer rules that better reflect the current state of the hobby and our event, but this video is still useful not only as a safety guide, but as a time capsule for anyone who attended back then. The good old days of penny mods!
