Earlier this year, Rasik set a tall order - to bring a master concert of classical Indian dance with live music, to a professional dance venue in Boston. Last Saturday’s Mohiniyattam concert by Dr. Neena Prasad with her ensemble of musicians, far exceeded our goals and dreams for Rasik and shattered any glass ceiling we may have had in our area for a 2+ hour solo concert by a classical Indian dance artist at a mainstream dance venue.
What we witnessed in the intimate theater space at the Dance Complex on Saturday was not just a spellbinding evening-length production of dance, but a deeply moving emotional experience that left everyone short of words and comments. After her deeply impactful rendition of the Buddhist legend of āmrapālī, there was not a dry eye in the house.
We created Rasik last year with the hope of someday, acquiring an equal footing for classical Indian dance on the mainstream arts scene in Boston. We could not have dreamt that we would assert this message so strongly in just our second year of programming, by featuring one of the greatest artists of our times, and one of the best in the world. We are deeply grateful to our production partner, The Dance Complex , our fiscal sponsor Monkeyhouse and also to Cambridge Arts and Cambridge Community Foundation for their support of this project.
Thank you for your artistry, Dr. Neena Prasad and team and to everyone who attended to share in this truly special experience. Our hearts are full and we are deeply grateful 🙏🙏🙏💕💕
