Black and Pink: Boise

Black and Pink: Boise Black and Pink: Boise is an open family of queer & trans prisoners and "free world" allies who support each other.

Black and Pink is a national family of queer and trans prisoners and "free world" allies who support each other. Our work is guided by a larger goal of collective liberation within an abolitionist framework. We understand the prison industrial complex to be part of a larger system that utilizes systems of oppression to divide people and exploit our individual and collective power. Through movement

building and sustained direct action against these systems of violence we will create the world we dream of. In Boise, our main focus is our pen pal project with queer and trans prisoners. The heart of Black and Pink's work is connecting LGBTQ prisoners with pen-pals on the outside. Building community across prison walls is an important act of solidarity with those most harmed by the Prison Industrial Complex and an act of resistance against a system which seeks to divide and isolate us. Letter writing builds relationships that help our communities grow and thrive, while providing a valuable harm reduction tool to those on the inside by sending a message to guards and other prisoners that they are not forgotten. We also send birthday and holiday cards to our incarcerated LGBTQ family, so keep an eye out for our next card writing party. For folks on the outside who are new to being a pen-pal (or who would just like community and support around the process), we hold bimonthly letter-writing gatherings. Join us at Leaf Teahouse in downtown Boise every first and third Saturday from 11am to 2pm.

Black and Pink: Boise Drop-In Time!

I (Jeremy) am going to hold some table space this Saturday (July 6) at Alia's Coffeehouse from around 10 until 1. Come by and learn what we're all about and how you can support incarcerated LGBTQIA+ folks!

I'll be writing a letter or two to my pen-pals and chatting with anyone who's interested in learning more about the work we do. I'll also have cards and things if anyone wants to write one of their own (either to an ongoing pen-pal or just a one-off note of support).

So come on by and hang out!

As you all know, there is much work to be done in our society. We at Black and Pink: Boise are committed to being a part of that work.

Be on the look out for an update soon for how you can get involved.

"We are the spark. And hope survives while we survive, and the fight goes on while we fight it.

Keep breathing. Look after your neighbor. Get fed, get free, and help each other to be brave, in this world that requires so much courage.

Time to grab on and bend the arc of history."

“We are not fu**ed. We are not doomed. What we are is at war. So get in on the war effort. Join up, support the troops, all of those old cliches. I Want You. This is a paradigm-breaking time that will define the world for generations. We don’t give up. We fight for all our lives.”

We at Black and Pink: Boise want to take a moment to celebrate and remember Da'vina Curiel. Da'vina was a fabulous friend. She adored LeAnn Rimes, gummy candies, and pickles. She had a big heart and so much love for the people in her life. We miss her so much, and it doesn't feel real that she's no longer here to celebrate with us.

Today is her birthday. She would have been 34. We miss you Da'vina and will always love you.
