Over the last 3 weeks, our Belle Chasse Rotary Club has been inspired by some incredible organizations making a real difference right here in Plaquemines Parish.

● Zachary Clark & Vanessa Paige from the Belle Chasse YMCA's Leaders Club spoke to our club on April 28th. Our future is bright thanks to these young leaders. Their energy, service projects, and commitment to personal growth remind us why investing in youth leadership matters. They're already shaping the community and meaningful ways.

● Julie McGrew Olsen & Trent Mackey from the Plaquemines CARE Center joined us on May 5th. We heard powerful updates on the vital Services they provide to families in our area from counseling to advocacy to community support. Their dedication to protecting and uplifting are most vulnerable neighbors is truly remarkable.

● Kim Turlich-Vaughan represented our Council on Aging Program during our meeting on May 12th. We learned how they continue to serve our seniors with compassion, connection, and essential resources. Their work ensures that older adults in our Parish are supported in valued.

3 weeks, 3 powerful reminders of what service looks like in action. Proud to partner with and learn from each of these organizations as we continue "Service Above Self" in Plaquemines Parish.

The month of March has been full of guest speakers for our Belle Chasse Rotary Club! It has been such an honor and a pleasure having Rotarian, Leo J. Palazzo challenge our members with a suspenseful turn of events trial example when he presented on March 17th. The very next week we had Julie Escaudier, the Executive Director of West Jefferson Medical Center, tell us all about the latest and greatest at the Hospital as well as their Family Fest event that will be held on May 8th! Last but certainly not least, Lizzie Hoyle Konecni was our dynamic guest speaker today! Lizzie is the co-founder of the Playful Pelican Children's Museum that is planning on serving thousands of children on the Westbank of New Orleans!
Thank you to all of our guest speakers! Each of you truly enrich our Rotarians during our weekly meetings!

Belle Chasse Rotary Club partnered with the Young Life organization to hold a series of 4
workshops for single, high school mothers & fathers that are participating in Young Life's
YoungLives program. The purpose of the workshops was to help the young parents develop life skills and to encourage them to continue their education and professional development after high school.

Our first workshop kicked off on September 25, 2025 where we focused on child and maternal health. In attendance was Plaquemines Medical Center, Westside Dermatology and Dental Expert, Dr. LaCour.

On October 30, 2025 we partnered with fellow Rotarian, Kelly DiMarco, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, Plaquemines Parish and Senior Educator in Jefferson Parish Schools. During the workshop, the young mothers received information on opportunities after highschool, including continuing their education and how to conduct themselves in a professionalsetting. Two of the Jefferson Parish educators were particularly impactful as they described how they went from being single mothers in high school to earning a Doctorate and rising to senior positions in the Jefferson Parish Schools.

Our Third Workshop topic was finance on January 22, 2026! The session was planned and coordinated by Rotarian Troy LeGlue, who is a banker with Hanock Whitney. The mothers were provided information and advice on how to plan for their financial future.

Wrapping up our Session line up was on March 26, 2026.The purpose of the workshop was to encourage the young mothers to develop a Vision and Goals on where they want to be in future. The mothers were divided into groups and each group was provided with either a Rotarian or a Young Life mentor to assist them. Two education and goal setting experts volunteered their time and experience:
 Christen Arafeh , High School to College Consultant and Published Author
 Cindy Hoyle, Former Plaquemines School Teacher and Principal and Education
Consultant
The mothers were provided materials to develop Vision Boards. The Vision Boards were used to
help them work through the vision and goal setting process and to memorialize their results.

Huge thank you to all of our Young Life volunteers and Rotarians who made this program such a success!

What a fantastic day at the 3rd Annual Belle Chasse Rotary Bingo!
Today, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting our local Council on Aging senior citizens for a day of competitiveness, shared stories, and plenty of laughs. There’s nothing quite like the energy in the room when someone is just one number away from a win!
Highlights from the Day:
The Big Wins: Congratulations to all our lucky winners who took home some great prizes!
Community Spirit: It was wonderful to see our Rotary members and seniors connecting over coffee and cards.
Three Years Strong: This event has quickly become a club favorite, and seeing it grow each year is a testament to the vibrant spirit of Belle Chasse.
A Special Thank You
We want to extend a huge thank you to the Council on Aging for partnering with us once again, and to all the Rotarian volunteers who helped set up, call numbers, and serve.

Thank you Mr. Leo J. Palazzo for the "Leo Lagniappe" winnings for today to make our Bingo event extra exciting!
