Black Heritage Week

Black Heritage Week 6th Annual Observance and Celebration of the Black Experience. August 14 - 20, 2022. WHAT is Black Heritage Week (BHW)? BHW is not an organization.

We encourage everyone to shop with Black businesses, support Black creatives and professionals, and participate in the programming of Black cultural institutions. Black Heritage Week is an Annual Celebration of the Black experience taking place in the week surrounding the birthday of Marcus Garvey, who was born August 17, 1887. This week will be dedicated as an observanceβ€”a time to explore and cel

ebrate Black Heritage. We envision citizens of Baltimore attending events and participating in activities that reflect the history and culture of Black People - here in Baltimore City and throughout the Diaspora. BHW is not politically driven, though we hope it encourages civic engagement. BHW is not an event, though we will promote a variety of events held during that week & Co-Host the Annual Marcus Garvey Parade & Festival. BHW is not a campaign or a movement, though we will encourage the community to get into it and behind it. Like-minded individuals & organizations have aligned their efforts and are in support of the vision. BHW is not a revenue-generating opportunity, though we hope it generates support and revenue for Black businesses and organizations throughout the Diaspora.
