Reflecting on the heels of Hurricane Katrina 20 years ago, I am reminded of the heart of our industry. In the weeks following Katrina I was contacted by Rita’s NP in New York with a request for all 50 of my state postcard canvases. “Team Rita’s” had organized 50 volunteers to stitch the canvases, which would be made into a quilt for a fundraiser with proceeds going to Katrina relief efforts. Months later I received a note that the quilt raised 50,000.00 which was sent to the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans , and the finished quilt was also sent to hang in the Parenting Center of the hospital. I don’t know if it is still there- but this truly shows the heart that our trade can have - and I am still honored to have been a part of this story.
