Atlanta Jewish Film Festival

Atlanta Jewish Film Festival Engaging Atlanta's diverse communities through curiosity, conversation, and culture.

The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival (AJFF) is a showcase of international cinema that broadly explores themes of identity, history and culture. The annual festival was founded in the year 2000 by the Atlanta Regional Office of American Jewish Committee (AJC), a global advocacy organization that enhances the wellbeing of the Jewish people and Israel through education, outreach and diplomacy. Through t

he power and shared experience of cinematic storytelling, AJC and AJFF foster stronger bonds within the Jewish community, and intergroup relations with Atlanta's diverse cultural, ethnic and religious communities. The inaugural edition of the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival welcomed some 1,900+ filmgoers. That number grew to more than 7,500 by 2006, the same year that AJFF received a prestigious grant from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). The following year, AJFF began an aggressive expansion of dates and venues, seating some 15,000 by 2008. In 2010, AJFF celebrated its tenth birthday with a concert of iconic Jewish film scores, presented in partnership with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Turner Classic Movies. Attendance reached 20,000 by the end of the first decade, and continued growing to over 30,000 moviegoers in the years that followed. By this time, AJFF was exhibiting some 70 narrative and documentary features and shorts, running for 23 days across a half dozen venues throughout metro Atlanta. Already Atlanta's single largest film festival, AJFF made history in 2015 to become the largest Jewish film festival in the world, attracting more than 38,600 moviegoers. Today, AJFF is an independent non-profit arts organization that continues an active partnership with its founding agency, American Jewish Committee.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Matthew Bernstein on his retirement after an extraordinary career with Emory University’s Film and Media Department, where he inspired generations of students and helped shape Atlanta’s film culture.

A cherished voice in our community, Matthew has been a valued friend of ATL Jewish Film as a board member, presenter, and champion of our mission. His annual Best Bets programs with Bob Bahr became a beloved festival tradition. We are deeply grateful for his partnership and wish him joy as one reel ends and another begins.

ATL Jewish Film joins in remembering Ted Turner, a visionary whose work transformed film, news, sports, and entertainment while helping shape Atlanta into a global center for storytelling and culture. Through CNN, TBS, TNT, and Turner Classic Movies, his influence reached generations of audiences and creators.

His legacy also touched ATL Jewish Film in meaningful ways. Turner entities including CNN and TCM have been valued partners in our work, and many current and former Turner leaders, employees, and creatives have woven themselves into the fabric of our organization as staff members, board leaders, volunteers, collaborators, and passionate lovers of film. The creative ecosystem Ted Turner helped build in Atlanta created space for organizations like ours, and so many others, to grow and thrive. We honor his extraordinary life and extend our condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were inspired by his remarkable vision and enduring impact.

Our friends at the The Breman Museum invite you to CONVERGENCE—a special performance celebrating 100 years of African American and Yiddish musical traditions.

Featuring vocalist and scholar Anthony Russell—special guest at the 2025 —the program explores the deep connections between African American spirituals and Eastern European Jewish music, blending blues, klezmer, and sacred song into a powerful, historically rooted experience.
