just got back from world cup match, the congo v uzbekistan
so exciting
i never imagined when i started this beautiful game in high school in 1971 that i would be in a stadium with 75k people in atlanta georgia with total pandemoniun for a team from africa and one from the former ussr!!!
70k people, and maybe about as diverse as could possibly be
like an equal number from every race, creed, gender, age, economic status, all screaming, hugging strangers ( there really were no strangers there)
and then packed like sardines in a can on the marta train back home
again, all mixed together from all different human states and types
happy, rejoicing with each other, excited but nonviolent
seeing this, it just blows my mind that we , yes we, the usa, put down other races, cultures, religions, genders, ideologies, even start wars against them
that two hours of being in that sea of humanity , together, joyful, even the losers, will carry me a long way through these dark days of our country, and hopefully long enough for us to be back on track as a world leader for peace, prosperity and health for all people

we have several tunes throughout the service- anthem, offertory, prelude/postlude tunes, and we led the cong in hymns
we were so honored to be asked to join them at decatur first and special thanks to catherine wilson, director of music, for asking us to join in and arranging for us to come

USA!!!!
USA have never had a team with such poise in front of goal, while at the same time running crazy the whole other time of the game
their frenzy was there when needed( any time they were dispossessed they were snap right back on it) and calm when needed
they moved the ball around like no US team has ever done
they were more inventive on offense and more organized on defense than ever
even though paraguay not the strongest team on the block, all the basics are there for bigger challenges
the goalie was never really challenged, and can they keep up that intensity, those are the unknowns
the knowns are that we have some talent and we came to play

two services so great for early birds... get to the park after folks and brunch/ second cup/ sunday crossword morning types too!!

come on out and sing along, tap your foot, all welcome of all faiths, no faiths, gender, politics, age, everyone welcome
bluegrassy gospel tunes like where the soul of man never dies, i am a pilgrim, ill fly away, u dont lnock, turn ur radio on, get in line brother, and more!!
and hymns like in the garden, uncloudy day, i have decided , swing low!!!

after a really fun run of trad bluegrass events --
plain air artists festival in atlantic station, bourbon bbq and best in breed lab rescue event in dunwoody , then an awsum kirkwood spring fling festival, we now turn to gospel bluegrass!!!
we will be honored to play and sing for two upcoming celebrations of life at glenn memorial umc on the next two saturdays ( one of the highest honors for me to be asked to participate in such an event)
and on sunday june the 14 th we will lead a bluegrass gospel sunday worship at decatur first methodist church ( commerce and ponce)!!
ALL are welcome to this very open and welcoming/ inclusive place, people of all or no faiths, all genders, all cultures, everyone!!!
we will do both early and 11:00 services
8:45-9:00- gospel bluegrass medley
9:00-10:00- regular service with the hillsbillys offering 2-3 " special music" tunes and also lead the congregation in 3 tradition old-time hymns
10:45-11:00- bluegrass gospel medley of tunes
11:00-12:00- regular service with special music tunes by the hillsbillys and hymns as well
