Tichenor Tuesday✨
This elegant porcelain vase features a richly saturated cobalt-blue ground, densely adorned with a profusion of hand-painted floral motifs. Blossoms in soft shades of coral, lavender, ivory, and gold unfold across the surface in layered clusters, interwoven with delicate green foliage and fine, branching stems. The composition evokes a lush garden in full bloom—a visual language often associated with prosperity, renewal, and harmony in East Asian decorative arts.
The vessel’s form—its rounded body rising to a gently flared neck—creates a graceful silhouette that complements the intricate surface decoration. Fine linework and carefully controlled glazing reflect skilled craftsmanship, while the vibrant palette suggests techniques commonly seen in decorative porcelain produced for both domestic enjoyment and export.
Displayed within the historic interiors of the McDaniel-Tichenor House, the vase offers a striking contrast to its Southern architectural setting, illustrating the global influences that have long shaped American decorative traditions. Its presence enriches the home’s collection, adding a note of color, delicacy, and cultural exchange.✨

🎶 Kicking off Porch Fest 2026– Josh Mobley & Friends!
Join us on May 2nd at 1 PM on the McDaniel-Tichenor porch as our first local musician Josh Mobley brings his signature lead guitar sound to start the day off right.
A familiar face in our community, Josh spends his days restoring historic hardwood floors—helping preserve the very homes that make events like Porch Fest so special. When he’s not working, you can find him playing with his band Deep Roots… and for this show, he’s bringing along a few talented friends!

Tichenor Tuesday ✨
Mounted on the exterior side porch of the McDaniel-Tichenor House, this decorative wall-mounted barometer evokes the romance and symbolism of seafaring life. Cast in metal and finished with a weathered verdigris patina, the piece is richly ornamented with a stylized sailing ship under full mast, flanked by nautical elements that suggest exploration and navigation. At its center rests a circular barometric dial, protected by glass, designed to measure atmospheric pressure and traditionally used to forecast changes in weather.
Below the dial, an anchor motif reinforces the maritime theme, symbolizing stability and safe harbor. The elongated vertical support and ornamental flourishes lend the object a sense of balance and symmetry, while also allowing it to function as a striking architectural accent.
While barometers were once essential tools for anticipating shifts in weather, this example likely serves a more symbolic role. Its maritime imagery may reflect the Tichenor family’s love of travel, suggesting an appreciation for distant horizons and the spirit of journeying beyond home. ✨
