We are so excited to welcome the students of Runner's High at EPIC Marathon & Running Festival again this year!

Runner’s High began at Neenah High School during the 2009–2010 school year as a way to give students who were struggling with AODA (alcohol and other drug abuse) a healthier path forward. It was created to offer hope, structure, and a positive challenge through the simple but powerful act of running.
Over time, the program has grown into something even bigger.

Today, Runner’s High is for any student who needs a fresh start, a new direction, or a chance to prove something to themselves. For many, it’s about choosing to do something hard, something different, and something meaningful. It’s about committing to a goal that once felt impossible—training for and completing a half marathon.

Every student joins for their own personal reasons. Some are searching for confidence. Some are looking for connections. Some simply want to see if they can do it. No matter the reason, they are met with encouragement, belief, and steady support from staff who run alongside them every step of the journey.

Runner’s High isn’t just about miles logged or races finished. It’s about building resilience, discovering inner strength, and realizing that they are capable of more than they ever imagined.

Welcome to the final Wednesday Fuel-Up with Lindsay before race day!

Over the past month and a half, Registered Dietitian Lindsay Fencl from Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine has been sharing crucial nutrition tips to help you prepare for race day.

Thank you to Aurora BayCare for being the official medical partner of the EPIC Marathon & Running Festival!

💧 Hydration Tips for Race Week! 💧

Training is done — now it’s all about showing up feeling strong, energized, and well hydrated. Here’s how to set yourself up for success in the days leading up to the big race day:

1. Start Early
Start increasing fluid intake 2-3 days before the event. Aim for clear or light-yellow urine as a good indicator that you’re on track

2. Keep a Water Bottle Nearby
Since it is so vital to stay hydrated during the week leading up to the race, make sure to keep a refillable water bottle by you at all time.

3. Add Electrolytes
Especially during the final 48 hours, include high-sodium electrolyte packets/capsules (1,000mg sodium) daily with fluids. Make sure to get a variety of sodium, potassium, magnesium for maintenance of fluid balance and to prevent cramping.

4. Eat Hydrating Foods
Watermelon, oranges, cucumbers, leafy greens, and broth-based soups are easy ways to boost hydration without feeling waterlogged.

5. Race Morning Routine
Drink 16 oz of water or an electrolyte drink 2–3 hours before the start, then take small sips as needed leading up to the race to maintain hydration status while preventing overloading the bladder.

🏃‍♂️ For help with last-minute race-day fueling, call 920-288-5491 to schedule an appointment with Aurora BayCare Sports Medicine’s Registered Dietitian – Lindsay Fencl.
