Once upon a time, there was clogged HVAC system that bypassed the water to the metal catch pan. The water had no choice but to puddle up and try exiting through a back up drain line. Over time the metal catch pan became corroded from the water sitting there. As the water exited, it also became rusty.
Drip after drip the ambient temperature would rise and soon enough the drips became a stream that cascaded onto the floor and at times when the wind blew, it would also cling onto the wall and window frames.
The rust left a very unsightly stain on the deck floor and facade making the home owner wonder whether this stain would ever come off??
The homeowner eager to remove the stain tried to power wash it, but had no luck removing it.
