Congratulations, to our own Eric Rizzo, for this wonderful achievement! We are proud of you!

Congratulations to Eric J Rizzo from Hamden, Connecticut, United States, who is a finalist in group 4 (ages 26 & up) of the 2020 Ictus International Trumpet Competition. As we lead to the announcement of the winners on September 15, we will be posting a few finalists each day.

Originally from the Delaware Valley, Eric J Rizzo is currently a freelance musician and teacher based in New England. He earned degrees at New England Conservatory and Yale School of Music, where he studied with Benjamin Wright, Thomas Siders, and Allan Dean. Also crucial to his musical development were early mentors from the Philadelphia Orchestra, his public-school music program, and The Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar.

Most recently, professional performances have included groups such as the Hartford Symphony and Phoenix: The Orchestra Reborn. At Yale, he was chosen to perform with the faculty brass. In the summer of 2019, Rizzo was a fellow at both the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival and Lake George Music Festival, and since 2018 has been a recurring member of the OneWorld Symphonic Festival in Virginia, where musicians gather from all over the globe to present community concerts and spread a message of peace and unity.

As an educator, Rizzo has taught students from a variety of backgrounds in all settings. At New England Conservatory, he and his brass quintet were awarded a fellowship by the Community Performances and Partnerships program. He was also a teaching artist for the Music In Schools Initiative at Yale. Before attending graduate school, he spent a year teaching music classes in the Bridgeport, CT public schools.

Aside from music, Rizzo is an avid long distance runner, and has completed two marathons. He is literate in French and Spanish, and looks forward to the day when he can safely resume his passion for traveling.

We lift our voice today against racism and condemn it in every form. We exhort our fellow humans to open their hearts and minds to listen to the cries for justice proclaimed by our black brothers and sisters. We are all called to examine our ways and explore actions that may contribute to rid our society once and for all of this cancer.

We, at OneWorld, believe in the sacredness and dignity of every human life. We believe we are all ONE and that we should all love and support each other in our quest to becoming the best versions of ourselves, as we each seek to contribute to the common good in our own way.

We stand against any and every action or thought that intends to diminish the dignity of any human life. We intend to continue to foster and exemplify world harmony both through music and by exalting the humanity of those in our community who may be most in need.
