Water Hill Music Fest

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

All good things come to an end.

After 8 years of organizing the Water Hill Music Fest, and after careful consideration, we’ve decided it’s time to bring it to an end. The decision stems from personal priorities, concern for public safety, and the challenge of maintaining its neighbor-to-neighbor, noncommercial character.

We’re glad the festival helped neighbors get to know each other better and fostered an appreciation of home-made music. We’d like to think it may have encouraged a willingness to try new things.

May the end of one thing make an opening for new possibilities. They say when a tree falls it lets the light in.

Paul: Thanks for calling. Please - and this is all off the record - do not write about the music festival. An article in the Post would certainly bring more people to the event, but it would not give us the one thing we want, which is the experience of our guests looking around and seeing a lot of people that they recognize. Several friends of the festival have expressed concern about an ad in the May Observer in which real estate agents say they are "Supporting Waterhill Festival 2016". The festival has always been, and remains, proudly non-commercial. We have had no communication with these realtors and have not accepted anything from them. Through organizing the festival, we have seen both the spirit of generosity in the Water Hill neighborhood as well as the challenges involved in trying to protect the event from the pressures of commercialism.
