So who is Calbert?
Calbert was so much more than a rescue dog, especially for us.
My husband Jake and I adopted Calbert in 2016. We were in need of a furry friend, and when we saw an adorable, smiling senior dog available through Project Hope Animal Rescue, we immediately fell in love.
To show our appreciation for Project Hope and similar rescues, Jake and I began running the Calbert Classic in 2019 to offer a low-cost, competitive, golf tournament, while donating a portion of the proceeds to Project Hope Animal Rescue.
We were blessed with 4 years with Calbert by our side. Sometime during year 3, Calbert began losing the ability to use his back legs. We were worried that he wouldn’t have a good quality of life without being able to move, but when he got his wheels he got a new lease on life! He was the same happy, loving boy, despite the challenges he was facing in his old age.
Throughout all the days he was in pain, Calbert still offered a smile to all who met him and was the best boy.
Eventually old age cut our time together short, so the Calbert Classic became the Calbert Memorial Classic in 2021. Portions of the proceeds from the Calbert Memorial Classic still go to Project Hope Animal Rescue so that other dogs and families can be blessed with their own story like Calbert and ours.
It was a no brainer when we chose to expand into more than just the Classic, Calbert Golf was the perfect name 🩵
