A training challenge for Saddlebreds and Half Saddlebreds entering sport horse disciplines.

I'm very sad to say that though there was an incredible amount of interest, and two reserved entries from last year, there were no entries at all for the challenge this year.

Some people say its too early for this, some people say its too late, some people want it in Washington, Kentucky, Connecticut, Ohio, or Florida, some people don't want to drive 45 minutes so they want it in their home town or they won't come. Some people said last year that they would come this year, and then this year said they wanted to come next year. Some people complained about Stabling last year and then when Stabling was made available this year with them specifically in mind they called the show unimportant and did not enter. So many people wanted this show to exist, but didn't want to do what it takes for that to happen.

I have had fun advocating for the American Saddlebred in sport for the last 8 years. I think they are amazing horses with so much untapped potential. Unfortunately my opinion isn't enough. I can't do this next year for personal reasons so for now, the sun is setting.

Mark your calendars! The only all ASB Sport Horse show is back and bigger than ever! This year our venue will offer stabling and the competition will be open to horses at all levels of training and competition.

Bring your Dressage, Eventing, Jumper, Hunter, Trail, Reining, and Western Dressage horses out to compete with other saddlebred enthusiasts for the title of Champion in each division. The Saddlebred Sport Horse Challenge divisions will be open as always to horses in their first two years of competing in their sport horse discipline.

Green horses are encouraged to attend this friendly show and seasoned competitors will appreciate the positive atmosphere the Saddlebred Sport Horse community has grown.

Entries will open July-September 1

Heads up, Trainers! As an exciting piece of the Saddlebred Sport Horse Showcase we are partnering with some great rehoming organizations to send horses to approved trainers to compete with for special prizes and promotion at the next Showcase!
These horses will be selected by the organizations as good sport and performance prospects and offered to trainers for the duration of the training period through the challenge. After that they can adopt, place for the rescue (and recoup that training money), or return the horses with the good training they have received.
This is a great opportunity for out of breed trainers to get Saddlebred opportunities without any upfront horse costs and an even better opportunity for horses in transition looking for a new purpose.
Full details to come and we have already established some great partnerships but if you are a rescue/repurpose/or sanctuary organization interested in offering horses to trainers and want to get the details please send a PM!

Info for riders will be available in the next few weeks.

Yesterday we had a lovely young photographer come out for the show. She has made these photos available and I asked for her payment information for anyone to send her a tip (she is not charging for photos) enjoy and please tip her accordingly!

Thank you to everyone who came out today to display your fabulous American Saddlebreds and Half Saddlebreds! It was so much fun and so fabulous to see you all there!
Special Congratulations this years High Point winners and Young Stock winners: owner Yuba Pryor and her Saddlebred/Arabian 2yo filly Mystical Charm by I’m A Lucky Charm.
Congratulations also goes to owner Melanie Sloyer and I’m Watching My Step, a 9 year old full Saddlebred gelding by I’m First. They were our Reserve High Point, Gelding winners and the top scoring registered Saddlebred.
Thank you to The Vista Schooling and Event Center for being incredible hosts, to Brooke Delaine Burgess for going above and beyond in customer service, to Elly Schobel for being our judge for her excellent work, VERSA the American Saddlebred Versatility organization and wing of ASHBA for their sponsorship and support, and to our tireless handler Emily Copley who ran six of the eight horses on the triangle this morning.
Pictures will be posted as they become available and there will be an album on the page of this years show as soon as they are ready. I hope to see you all and many more next year!

Hungry for an update?? The show is this Saturday at The Vista in Aiken and we are starting at 8:00am with the Sport Horse In Hand classes!

The show will go on! Thank you to our competitors who ensured this event could run. Emails will be going out to participants with final show details and any applicable changes and we will see you on October 9th!

This year we will showcase Dressage, Eventing, Hunters, and Jumpers. We will also showcase each horse in hand.

If you’ve been thinking of entering please do, the team will work our hardest to accommodate and assist all the riders in any way we can. We want this event to show off ASBs in a whole new way and be the beginning of a new chapter of show horse classes and shows.
