Theme: Water Security for national prosperity: driving vision 2050 through resilience, equity and sustainability - the role of stakeholders
Water security is central to Tanzania’s socio-economic transformation and sustainable development. Under DIRA
2050, water underpins national prosperity, supporting human development, agriculture, industry, energy, and
ecosystem resilience. Tanzania’s diverse water resources sustain livelihoods and economic growth, yet population
pressure, climate variability, land degradation, and industrial expansion increasingly threaten their sustainability.
The National Multisectoral Forum on Water Resources Management and Development (NMSF), convened by the
Ministry of Water, provides a high-level platform for dialogue, coordination, and collaboration among government,
development partners, private sector, civil society, academia, and communities. The Forum advances integrated
water resources management (IWRM) strengthens cross-sectoral linkages, and aligns actions with national and
global development goals.
In 2025, the AGM and NMSF will be held back-to-back under the theme: “Water Security for National Prosperity:
Driving Vision 2050 through Resilience, Equity, and Sustainability.” The event will integrate DIRA 2050, the
post-WSDP agenda, Water Security as National Security, and Fair Water Footprint principles, highlighting
sustainable water resource management, climate resilience, and private sector engagement in stewardship and
financing.
